I just spent the most I have ever spent in one trip to the thrift store. When the cashier rung me up and the total was $75, I almost freaked out. Now I do recognize that this is not that much for some thrifters, but a little on the high side for me. On the bright side I got a bunch of shweeeet treasures. I am going to lay them all on the table and enjoy how pretty they are. Then hide them from hubby.

A riches to rags cowboy. A hardened cowgirl. The gunshot that erases all doubt.

Laura Warner knows nothing but horses. Her entire life has been lived on a ranch. It’s her love, her dream, and aside from the love of her life, Quentin, it’s the only thing that she ever thinks about. But when tragedy strikes at Kelsey Ranch, Laura is left to care for the horses and the land with the help of her siblings. Years later, Laura feels content with life, but when a gunshot blasts only days after she has to make a difficult decision, Laura learns that everything happens for a reason… and it doesn’t always lead to more hardship… sometimes it leads to happiness. But can she convince herself that this is possible?

Grayson Thomas is an out of work lowlife, who just happens to have world class siblings that drag him out of his rut days after he loses everything, or gives everything up, depending on one’s perspective. When he makes the decision to flee from El Paso and move to Huttonville, just outside of Dallas, his brothers give him their thumbs up. Grayson has no idea that he’s about to step into the world that he does, and when a gunshot blasts on his second day in Huttonville, he’s left wondering if he should make tire tracks back to El Paso, or stay in Huttonville. When Laura’s face becomes a staple in Grayson’s life, what was once a demon craving becomes a distant memory. What he once worked hard for and lost soon becomes something that he may have again. Things that once brought him to the edges of demise, become obliterated and exist only in random nightmares.

Grayson’s tough exterior is softened through Laura’s honest and thoughtful words, and Laura sees life in a new light, and learns to laugh and have fun again with someone that isn’t family. But is this enough? Can two people who have been through so much, lost everything and worked hard to gain it back, learn to trust enough to let their guard down and see life and love for what it is? Short answer, yes. They both do. But just when they do, someone who has been watching from afar swoops in and threatens to take everything. Can they survive yet another tragedy… and more important, will they have to?

I knew hot flashes were supposed to be hot, but I didn’t expect flames.

One day I’m in anger management, normalizing the cordial hate between me and my husband.

The next, we’re divorced and he has taken both our house and the business we built together. I’m forty years old and living above our empty restaurant, plotting my next move.

And then the world around starts lighting up — literally catching on fire. I’m starting to think my defining characteristic may not be my snark or my cupcake-baking prowess, but spontaneous combustion.

I’m done suppressing my anger. I’m done playing by other people’s rules. Ready to take the reins on my destiny, I’m making the choices I used to be too afraid to make. Like my favorite cast iron skillet, women get better with age. And at forty, I know exactly who I am and what I want.

She left everything behind to save her family. It wasn’t enough.

Italy, 1942. In the northern country town of Vercelli, Vittoria and her Jewish husband Maurizio built a happy, safe life together for their four small children. They believe nothing can touch them, not even the dark clouds of war gathering over Poland, not even as the radio reports come in from Rome. But war has its own plans for Vittoria.

Before the Nazi army reaches their homes, Vittoria and her family make a desperate escape toward Switzerland, the only place they can be safe from certain death. Their journey to the border is perilous, but nothing could prepare Vittoria for what she will have to face there — or what she will have to leave behind if she wants to save everyone she holds dear.
On the cusp of freedom, Vittoria is confronted with an impossible choice. She can put her entire family at risk or leave one of her children behind. If she does, she all but guarantees the safety of her loved ones. But how can a mother choose between one of her own children?

Time is short, and every minute edges them closer to danger. With the fate of her family squarely on her shoulders, Vittoria must decide. It is a decision she will have to live with for the rest of her life

How do you handle a crazy jackass? Eddie knows. If you ask Eddie, he’ll tell you pigs can fly and show you where to find real mammoth bones. Take his word for it when he tells you always to bet on the bear. These are things he learned while dreaming of becoming a cowboy in West Texas during the Depression. Through Eddie, the hero of “Tales of a Texas Boy,” we find that growing up is less about maturity and more about roping your dreams. Hold on tight. It’s a bumpy ride.
