I am angry. Mostly I am confused and lost, but definitely a little angry. The cable guy switched my cable box and now I have no clue how to work this thing. He said it had fantastic new features and even baked a cake when you asked it to. I have only asked it to turn on, and this has become a big fight between me and the machine. I am losing the battle quickly. I’m going to go read a book. I still know how to do that.

There is a time when history begins; a time when those who live feel the need to write their story, for those who come after them to read. When recollection of events of importance cannot be left to one’s offspring alone, but must be shared with all. Then there is a time where history transcends into legend; when strongly held beliefs are tried by fire, and traditions are questioned. There are beginnings that truly are beginnings and those that were only thought to be. This is that world; this is truly their beginning. What they thought was knowledge, was only a foundation. They will delve into a depth they have never known, discover things they never thought imaginable, and struggle to uphold the truth rather than be consumed by it. With magic in its infancy, and a world in turmoil, an endless chain of possibilities lie dormant. Rousing them has the potential for paragon or chaos, and only time will tell. Just as Leonardo da Vinci has mapped out the human body, and the world has begun to discover the mysteries within, so it is on Archana. With the rudimentary structure in place, they now have what it takes to discover what magic can do; both the mundane and the divine. Lore begins in these days, and mythology will forever echo their names.

David Watts takes readers back to 1950 and leads them on an inspiring journey through the darkest days of the Korean War– days in which men bleed and die in order to save an entire generation of people from North Korea.
Hope in Hungnam takes place during the darkest days of the Korean War in 1950: from the brutal Battle of Chosin Reservoir to the stunning Christmas Eve evacuation of 100,000 civilians from Hungnam, North Korea. As the flames of war engulf the Korean Peninsula, US Marine Jack Stiles desperately searches for meaning in the frozen killing fields of North Korea. Bloodied by war and bigotry, Stiles’ world is changed forever when he is critically wounded at Chosin Reservoir and left for dead. Nursed back to health by a mortal foe, he soon faces the realities of war, life, and love with new clarity. Hope in Hungnam tells the story of the woman who saved him, the Captain who saved them all, and the ship that did the impossible. In his riveting debut novel, David Watts weaves an epic tale of the men who fought, the men who died, and those who risked all in the most remarkable, yet almost unknown naval evacuation in all of human history. It is a story of war and hate, of love and forgiveness, but most importantly it is a gripping story of the enduring power of hope.
