I am finally in the mood to bake Christmas cookies. As some of you know, every year I spend about two or three solid days baking cookies. I have about five or six different ones that I like to make. I call it Cookie Palooza. It’s the time when I completely neglect my family, home, and myself, and just bake cookies. I bake way too many and completely wear myself out. SO FESTIVE! I love it though. I love the smell of the cookies, and I really love packing them up, and sending the baby bassets out to deliver them to family and friends. I usually do this the first week of December, but the mood just wasn’t there. If you are going to go that crazy baking, you gotta really want to do it. Thankfully the spirit of cookie baking hit me last night, and I made a list for the grocery store. This morning I will get supplies, and kick my family out of the kitchen for the great event. But first a bit of Ibuprofen. Baking this much is not for the weak.

Ava Wells had no idea that Dear John letters actually existed until she received one on the morning of her wedding. When she woke up, she expected to walk down the aisle and say, “I do.” Instead, she ended up at a diner commiserating with her sisters as she inhaled a carb heavy breakfast and ate her feelings. With her entire future in limbo, Ava was plotting her next move when she overheard a deep, sexy, blast-from-the-past voice ask for a table for two. She tried to place where she’d heard the baritone vibrato before but it was sort of hard to concentrate with the tiny hairs on the back of her neck standing up, goosebumps lifting on her bare skin, and her lady parts throwing a rave.
After nearly twenty years on the force Asher Ford thought he could handle anything, but becoming a single dad to a rebellious teenage girl overnight was proving to be more difficult than he’d expected. In a hail Mary move, he decided to quit his job as a homicide detective in New York City and move his daughter across the country to a simpler life in a small town. Things were going as planned until his fresh start was threatened after running into a breathtakingly beautiful woman whose smile made him feel like a teenager again and he also happened to share a complicated history with.
Sometimes it’s best to leave the past in the past… spoiler alert: this isn’t one of those times.

Legion of the Lost: The true experience of an American in the French Foreign Legion
by Jaime Salazar
(519 Reviews)
Genre: History
FREE for a limited time
No army is more surrounded by mystery, romance, and admiration than the French Foreign Legion.
King Louis Philippe II created the Foreign Legion in 1831 as a way to rid France of penniless immigrants and others considered a liability to the French establishment. The Foreign Legion still exists today as an elite army of modern mercenaries from around the world, in the service of la France.
Considered a haven for the dregs of society, joining the Foreign Legion was rumoured to be simple, but it wasn’t. Getting out of the Foreign Legion, as Salazar soon realised, proved impossible. So what was an engineering professional doing in the “Legion of the Damned”? For those Dostoevsky calls the “insulted and the injured,” men of character who seek adventure in the most obscure places, the Legion offers refuge. After surrendering his passport, and with it, any human rights, the Legion gave Salazar a new name and life.
Once enlisted, there are three ways to leave the Legion: finishing one’s five-year contract, disability, or leaving in a box. While serving a term in Legion prison, Salazar came up with a fourth solution – escape.
