So there I was at the grocery store checking out the teenie tiny avocados. $1.29 each if you buy three. UGH… are they worth it? Ugh… Then the alarms went off. My first thought was “I didn’t do it!” No, not the store alarms. It was everyone’s phones. It was really creepy to hear the alarms go off and everyone stop and check their phone to see what was happening. The message looked so ominous, “EARTHQUAKE! Find Cover!” After I read that I looked at everyone else. Everyone was looking at each other, not saying a word. We waited. A few second pass, and still nothing. We went back to shopping. 4.1 quake somewhere 2 hours away. We are so jaded here no one panics. A few seconds of nothing, then back to business without a second thought. We could have an aftershock. Or we couldn’t. Not really gonna think twice about it today. They say the BIG ONE is coming. Ummm…okay.

The joys and contentment of newly-wedded life, set against the tranquil beauty of the English countryside, are the subject of this volume by the beloved novelist, D.E. Stevenson. The author of Bel Lamington continues the heartwarming story of the gentle heroine who came to London and fell in love with her employer, Ellis Brownlee.
Shortly before Bel’s marriage to Ellis, her friend, Louise Armstrong, goes house hunting for the Brownlees and discovers a charming but neglected old stone cottage in the Cotswolds. Bel adores the house, called Fletchers End. Equally enthusiastic, Ellis buys the place from the absentee-owner, Lieutenant Commander Lestrange, and, after a picture-book wedding, the happy couple move in.
As she embarks on her new life as a devoted wife, Bel loyally guides Louise through her own romantic tribulations. She also enjoys sharing with Ellis the excitement and satisfaction of decorating their first real home, as well as unravelling the mysteries of the old stone cottage.
But with the unexpected arrival of Lieutenant Commander Lestrange, the peace of Fletchers End is suddenly threatened…

Louise Rickshaw; good with numbers, bad with men, and look-alike to a dead girl. Spring 1979 in Gully, Georgia, Louise’s life is changed when a corpse is placed on a swing set just around the corner from her childhood home. In addition to hiding a new job from her abusive husband, Louise becomes wrapped up in a murder investigation; not only because of her uncanny likeness to the victim but because of the relentless, personal coincidences. With everything working against her aside from the engaging new neighbor, Louise must unravel the mysteries of her hometown, her family, and become the brave woman she was told she could not be.
I stood at the end of the walkway leading up to the ugly brown-orange door of my childhood home. I could see through the living room window to the same green and gold couch that pulled out into an uncomfortable bed. Bert’s chair sitting in the corner with his ass imprinted into the cushion. The aquarium was bubbling in the back with only two skinny guppies in the 40-gallon tank. The lights were off. The house was silent in the surrounding loudness of the corpse that was half a block away.

The Last Train to Tucson (The Four Corners of Death Book 1)
by Virgil Cain
Genre: Men’s Adventure | Historical Fiction
FREE for a limited time
Ranching on the Apacheria for near on 20 years, Shoe was just trying to make ends meet. Thing is, living south of the Gadsden line was poor for a man’s health. Nor was that likely to change before his gray years had expired. There was silver in the Dragoons and copper in the Mules, and if folks were told there was a dollar to be made mining brimstone, they’d surely come running. After 30 years spent in isolation, the railroad had come through just as folks started pulling money out of the mountains. Arizona was finally on the rise. Overnight, fortune-seekers of all sorts flooded into the territory. On came a plague of rustlers, outlaws, and gunslingers from Texas and New Mexico, successful miners and saloonmen from California, and professional gamblers from San Francisco, Leadville, and Dodge City. Add to that volatile mix the imposing shadow cast by Geronimo and his renegade Apache and it’s likely the wildest the West ever got. Reckon ol’ Shoe never had a chance.
