I am not going to say that I am the most perceptive person. In fact I am usually so deep in my own little world, that I miss a lot that is happening around me. My partner in crime is the one who points things out to me that I would otherwise have missed. Yesterday was the exception though. I saw him immediately, and I knew he was in pain. I hurt for him. You could see in his eyes he knew he had made a mistake, but it was too late for him. I feel so bad that there was nothing I could do. His image will haunt me for a long long time. He was…. a man in a craft store with his girlfriend. He stood out like a female in a comic book shop. I came across him numerous times. He was following right behind her with an arm full of supplies. She didn’t even have the decency to get him a basket or a cart. Obviously she was heartless. She knew without the cart he would not have a free hand to be distracted by his phone. He was forced to look at every glitter encrusted knick knack and every festive Halloween figurine. At one point our eyes met and silently he pleaded with me for help. I quickly turned away. At some point a man must learn the cold hard lesson. I kid, but actually my youngest baby basset loves the craft store. He knows though to get a cart and have a snack handy. The craft store is rarely a quick trip…its more of an adventure.
