This morning we had two 3.9, a 2.7 and a 1.9 quake. They are hard to feel but it still freaks me out. My poor baby bassets. Monday morning, before I took the kids to school, I loaded up their backpacks with emergency canned food. I know there are lighter items I could have put in their bags, but cans is all I had in the cupboard, so they will just have to deal with it until I get to the store. Poor little guys were huffing and puffing carrying those backpacks, but gosh darn it, I just couldn’t let them go out the door without a few cans of tuna and peaches. I also gave them instructions on how to open cans without can openers. Hmmm… maybe I should pack some of those emergency blankets as well.

The Adventures of the Lone Jack Kid

Genre: Action & Adventure | Westerns

Join the fun. Ride along with Jesse and Frank James and the Younger brothers as they share in the adventures of The Lone Jack Kid.
This was wartime and men lived and died fighting their enemy . . . and sometimes they died fighting each other. Cole looked at the men, raised his hand, and said in a voice loud enough for everyone in the room to hear, “Don’t do it, boys. Sturman was a yellow cur, and a deserter, and you don’t have to die trying to avenge the likes of him.
There were seven Indians and they were standing around two semi-naked white women who appeared to be a mother and daughter. Charlie took a deep breath and let it out slowly. Then he aimed – – and fired, and fired, and fired again, repeatedly. He dropped four of the Indians before they knew what hit them. Then he charged into the clearing and shot another Indian reaching for his gun.
“My name is Charles Longstreet.”
The men looked at each other as recognition set in. “You’re the Lone Jack Kid?”
The Kid smiled. “The one and only.” He pulled his hat off of his head and waved it in the air, then he gave the Rebel yell. “See you money grubbers in hell, boys.” He jerked the reins, and nudged Comet with his heals. She turned her head and leaped into the bubbling stream with water as high as the stirrups, and dashed across, splashing tendrils of water high in the air on both sides of her. It was an impressive display of horsemanship, and the toll collectors watched with grudging admiration.

Island of Bones (Louis Kincaid Book 5)
P.J. Parrish
(40 Reviews)
Genre: Mystery, Thriller & Suspense
FREE for a limited time
In the wake of a hurricane a tiny skull washes up in front of detective Louis Kincaid’s cottage. Days later, the bullet-riddled body of a woman surfaces on a nearby island. She has no identification…except for a unique coral ring. Sensing a connection, Louis begins his investigation, a search for the truth that will lead him down a trail of secrets and lies—to the Island of Bones, where evil never dies and the living never escape.
“The tension builds to a near palpable level as Kincaid uncovers secrets as dark and warped as the primal landscape. World-weary, contemplative Mel Landeta is the perfect foil for Kincaid, a true man of action. Their camaraderie, combined with Parrish’s crisp dialogue and skill at stringing out the suspense, are what make this carefully constructed mystery so absorbing. Parrish’s second Kincaid mystery, Dead of Winter, earned a nomination for an Edgar, and this book merits another. Anyone who has read Parrish’s mysteries will undoubtedly clamor for this one.” — Publishers Weekly (starred review)
