I was searching through every cupboard in the kitchen for my sister in law’s Tupperware we borrowed for Christmas Eve leftovers. They weren’t with my containers, and I couldn’t find them in the cupboard above the refrigerator. I always tell everyone when we borrow food containers from people to put them in the coat closet after they are cleaned. I could only find half of the containers we borrowed and for some reason it was weighing on my mind. I never want to be the person who doesn’t return containers. After I searched every possible place at least three times, it hit me… NOOOOOOO! Please no. No no no no no no. Please tell me they are not still in the fridge with Christmas leftovers in them!! Was the whimpering coming from me or from inside the fridge? EW! I mustered up the courage and tunneled my way through the cold to the very back and to my horror I found the last remaining containers. It’s the sound it makes when it oozes out of the container and into the trash that gets me. I can usually spare my eyeballs if I don’t look directly at it, but my nose and ears just can’t escape the horror. Thankfully by the third and final container my senses had gone into protection mode and shut off. At least temporarily. All I could think was that was what regret looked and smelled like.
