The salamanders in my back yard are fed up with me. The pond we started back in September is nowhere near done. We found a bunch of rotten wood on the deck and the side of the house, and all of that needed to be fixed or replaced in order to move forward with the pond. The pond was supposed to be done by Thanksgiving. By the looks of the large hole in the ground and all the mud, we still have a long way to go. So how do I know the salamanders are fed up? Well, I absolutely need to spend time in the garden. It’s my way of decompressing. Even though there is not much I can do, I do what little I can. Often times that means moving pots or rocks. I have found so many little salamanders hiding under the pots and rocks, and they always looked shocked and perturbed when I expose them. I usually replace whatever they were hiding under and know not to bug them again, but the look they give me is always easy to translate. WHAT THE HECK HUMAN!!!??? I get in trouble so much in the garden I think maybe I will just leave it alone for a while. Maybe they will forgive and forget. Maybe???

Dan Kilmer is a former Marine sniper in his early thirties. He returned home from military service in the Middle East and gave college a try, but his combat experiences prevented him from fitting into campus life. In a South Florida boatyard, his uncle was attempting to refurbish an old cargo schooner, and Dan left college to help him finish the flagging project. After two years of work but before the sixty-foot boat was relaunched, his uncle fell from a scaffold and died. While still in his twenties, Dan inherited the schooner Rebel Yell. Soon after, he left the United States to embark on a series of voyages, mostly in pursuit of beautiful women and good times. While he was away from America, new federal taxes were imposed on luxury property, including privately owned yachts. Dan cannot pay these or other new taxes, so he can’t return to the States without risking confiscation of his schooner. Instead he must always fly under official radar and earn a living by his wits while staying one step ahead of the IRS and other government agencies. He must navigate the reefs of government control while always searching for a way to make money without the permission of the local authorities. This usually requires some type of shady dealing, subterfuge, and stealing from thieves as Dan moves from port to port.

Get Rid of the Mess: Decluttering What You Don’t Need to Make Space for What Matters Most
by Jenna Ford
4.4 Stars (191 Reviews)

FREE for a limited time

Welcome to decluttering for “real life.”

If you’ve ever looked around your home and thought, “I don’t even know where to start,” this book was written for you, to help you make real progress.

In Get Rid of the Mess, Jenna Ford takes a refreshingly honest approach to decluttering — one that goes beyond bins, labels, and quick fixes. Drawing from her own experience as someone who once struggled with clutter, Jenna not only focuses on how to clear the clutter away, but also why it builds up in the first place. The result is a guide that feels relatable, compassionate, and actually doable.

This isn’t about perfection or minimalism. It’s about recognizing your habits, your situation, your life stage, and your emotional connection to your stuff — so you can actually purge the clutter, and it doesn’t just come back again.
What Makes This Book Different

Decluttering That Addresses the Emotional Side of Mess
Clutter isn’t a character flaw. It’s often a response to busy lives, transitions, overwhelm, or holding onto things “just in case.” This book helps you understand the motivations behind your clutter so you can make real changes and stick with them.
