When I was a kid, grammar school age, I was bullied pretty hard on a daily basis. Every single morning, as soon as I closed the front door to begin my walk to school, he would show up. He was always hiding in the bushes waiting for me. I tried to close the door quietly and not draw his attention, but I was never quiet or fast enough. He would pop out of the bushes and give me the most evil stare. So much hate in the eyes. I never knew why he hated me so much. I never did anything to him. NEVER. Yet there he was.. every… single… morning. As soon as he spotted me I would make a run for it. I would run so fast and in such a panic knowing that he was gaining on me, that I would often trip up. That was when he would catch me and begin his assault. You would think a bunny rabbit couldn’t do much harm, but you would be wrong. The mad squeals as he attacked my shoes will forever haunt me. I hated that rabbit. Such a jerk.

Make one stupid bet and suddenly you’re fake dating your hot new neighbor…
There is nothing like hiding a secret identity from your roommate besties to complicate… everything. And when they decide I need a love life makeover, I can’t tell them why I don’t have time for their schemes.

Retirement home nurse by day, lead singer of a rock band by night. Not on the schedule? Men. I’d rather cuddle with Bernice, the hangry boa next door.

I can’t think of an excuse fast enough to get out of betting my prime parking space against them finding me true love, but luckily, they pick the worst possible guy for me.

Sure, our new neighbor, Josh, is hot, but he’s from an Austin family whose money is so old, it’s dusty. Been there, done that, and I’m not going back to be broken again by a man just like my ex.

This bet is as good as won.

The thing is, Josh isn’t easy to shake, especially after he discovers my rock ‘n’ roll alter ego.

When a fake dating agreement, a cursing parrot, and our late-night balcony talks lead to kisses so hot they melt me, I’m forced to decide: can I gamble my heart on a society guy who is expected to settle down with someone exactly not like me?

What really haunts Fenton House?
After the tragic death of their eleven-year-old son, Adam and Ella are fighting to keep their family from falling apart. Then comes an opportunity that seems too good to be true. They win a competition to live for free in a breathtakingly beautiful mansion on the Cornish Lizard Peninsula. There’s just one catch: the house is supposedly haunted.

Mystery has always swirled around Fenton House. In 1920 the house’s original owner, reclusive industrialist Walter Lewarne, hanged himself from its highest turret. In 1996, the then inhabitants, George Trehearne, his wife Sofia, and their young daughter Heloise vanished without a trace. Neither mystery was ever solved.

Adam is not the type to believe in ghosts. As far as he’s concerned, ghosts are simply memories. Everywhere he looks in their cramped London home he sees his dead son. Despite misgivings, the chance to start afresh is too tempting to pass up. Adam, Ella, and their surviving son Henry move into Fenton House. At first, the change of scenery gives them all a new lease of life. But as the house starts to reveal its secrets, they come to suspect that they may not be alone after all…

by C.J. Adrien
4.4 Stars (3,527 Reviews)

FREE for a limited time

“For indeed the Frankish nation, which was crushed by the avenger Hasting, was full of filthy uncleanness. Treasonous and oathbreaking, they were justly condemned; unbelievers and faithless, they were justly punished.” — Dudo of St. Quentin, Gesta Normannorum

Orphaned by blood feud and sold into slavery, the boy called Hasting should have perished nameless. Instead, a ship captain named Eilif frees him and awakens something fierce inside him. With his new crew, he will learn the ways of the Vikings and travel to far-off lands, where, as fate would have it, he will meet his first love.

But when that love is stolen from him by his own people, he turns to wrath. Hasting’s search for justice becomes a voyage across pagan and Christian worlds, where questions of faith and culture collide with vengeance, and a darker self begins to rise. With every battle won, the wolf within him grows stronger.

His is the story of a man who was a slave, who became a Viking, and who helped to topple an empire.
