Do you know what I loved as a kid? SWEATER VESTS!!! I had so many when I was in grammar school. The kids (no one) were so jealous of me (no they weren’t). Some might even say I was a fashionista. (fashion police knew me by my first name). I love the fact that sweater vests keep your core warm and your arms free to move however they like. Usually up in the air like I just don’t care. But I do. I am usually not one to be excited about shopping, but this time is different. I can feel it.

The Coleman Family of Nantucket hides a heartbreaking secret. When Samantha’s Great-Aunt Jessabelle passes away and leaves her a beautiful house on the bluffs, she’s forced to reckon with her family’s very dark past.

Can the truth bring her family back together again?

The Coleman Family of Nantucket is a piece of work. Samantha’s father, Roland, is obsessed with image and money, so much so that Sam’s career as a social worker who specializes in addiction recovery is a “stain” on the Coleman reputation.

Now, Samantha is forty-five years old and newly divorced. The further she gets from her relationship with her ex-husband, Daniel, the more she understands she married a manipulative and cruel individual, one not unlike her father. How did that happen?

When her Great-Aunt Jessabelle passes away and leaves her home to Samantha, Sam and her daughters, Darcy and Rachelle, begin refurbishment on The Jessabelle House, a glorious house not far from the town of Siasconset on Nantucket. Once there, Samantha discovers her aunt’s diaries, which reveal dramatic secrets from the past — and still more reasons not to trust the Colemans.

As Samantha dives deeper into her family’s history and Jessabelle’s stories, she finds herself learning more about what it means to be a powerful woman who knows who she is and what she wants.

More than that, she learns the present is just as complicated as the past ever was. If the Colemans are willing to open their hearts and start anew, Samantha just might have the tools to help them come back together again. But they’ll have to start talking to her, first.

The Jessabelle House is book one of The Coleman Series, a heart-wrenching yet hopeful family drama that unfolds between the glittering shores of Nantucket Island and Martha’s Vineyard.

What I Remember Most
by Cathy Lamb
4.7 Stars (223 Reviews)

FREE for a limited time

“I need to hide for a while.

To do that, I had to change my appearance. I went to a cheap hair salon and had them cut six inches off, to the middle of my shoulder blades, then I had them cut a fringe of bangs. I went home and dyed my hair back to its original auburn color; from the blonde it had been the last ten years. I washed it, then dried it with my back to the mirror.

I turned around and studied myself. Yep. That would work.

For the last year I had been Dina Hamilton, collage artist, painter, and blonde wife of Covey Hamilton, successful investor. Before that, for almost twenty years, I was Dina Wild. Now I would be Grenady, short for Grenadine Scotch Wild, my real name.

Yes, I was named after ingredients in drinks. It has been a curse my whole life. There have been many curses. I am cursed now, and I am packing up and getting the hell out of town.”

Grenady barely remembers her parents. Her last memory was of them yelling at her to, “Run, Grenadine, run!” and run she did, through dark shadows and swaying trees. After enduring foster care and homelessness as a child, she found a loving family and developed her talent as a collage artist. Now, years later, she’s on the run again. Her soon to be ex-husband has sworn he will implicate her in his business crimes unless she returns home. She refuses and begins a new life with new friends in a small Oregon town. She creates her giant collages, filled with found objects and treasures, and dares to trust a man who builds furniture as she re-builds her life.

But her old life is coming for her and running away again is not an option.
