I am not looking forward to today…UGH! Oh, Happy Monday by the way. Alright, back to me. Today I have to adult. I hate adulting. It being a Monday makes it worse. Not only do I have to adult, but I get to do it with a huge dollop of guilt. Today I am taking my pups Junebug and Casper to the vet. That isn’t so bad, but the fact that I have to leave them there for the day is the absolute worst! I hate the fact that I can’t tell them why I am dropping them off, and that I will be back. I am not abandoning them for the rest of their lives. I WILL BE BACK!! The best I can do is tell them I love them, give them a big hug, and tell them I will be back. I won’t be dramatic or anything. I will be sure to sound like everything is okay. I am a horrible actor. They will see right through me. UGH! Are scientists working on a translator for pets and humans yet? C’MON! Get to it.

“A timeless story of sisterhood, with all its joys and challenges, and also a reminder that we can dearly love and care for those who are not exactly like us.” — Lainey Cameron, author of The Exit Strategy.

Sisters Elinor and Saffron come to Italy to take possession of the cottage they inherited from their father, only to find it already occupied by a resident spirit. Younger sister Saffron, who has a psychic gift, can sense the invisible spirit, who was once 19th century English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. He drowned in the ocean here.

Shelley has his own reasons for staying. Connected to their father, who helped restore his literary reputation, he wants to help the sisters, who have been feuding for years. But they remain distinctly divided over what to do with the house.

Soon Saffron yields to Italy’s abundant charm and wants to stay, while Elinor organizes repairs to sell fast and go home. She thinks Saffron’s living in childish fantasy, while Saffron thinks her sister needs to find her romantic spirit.

Over the months of repairs, their epic clash of wills softens and the sisters remember the bond they once had. Italy weaves an enchanting spell as romance comes along for both. By Christmas time, they agree: Why hurry home? But just as renewed harmony and happiness are on the horizon, a devastating New Year’s Eve accident calls on one sister to make a sacrific — and she can only do it with help from the beyond.

Searching for Bowlby: The Life of John Bowlby: The Quiet Revolutionary Who Shaped Modern Attachment Theory
by C. V. Wooster
4.8 Stars (112 Reviews)

FREE for a limited time

John Bowlby is one of the most influential yet under-recognized figures in modern psychology. In Searching for Bowlby, C.V. Wooster delivers the first richly narrated biography of the visionary behind attachment theory — a groundbreaking framework that forever changed parenting, psychotherapy, and our understanding of human connection psychology.

Born into the emotionally distant world of Edwardian England, Bowlby’s early life was defined by loss, war, and rigid social expectations. These experiences would later inform his revolutionary idea: that a child’s bond with their caregiver is not just emotional, but essential for lifelong psychological health.

Wooster goes beyond academic analysis, weaving together meticulous research, personal anecdotes, and historical insights to offer a vivid, honest portrait of Bowlby’s life — from his childhood struggles and career controversies to the profound impact of his work on psychology, education, social work, and attachment theory for parents today.

This is not a story of uncritical admiration, but a thoughtful exploration of a complex, often misunderstood man whose work continues to shape how we relate, parent, and connect.

Freud and Jung became household names. John Bowlby, by contrast, worked in the shadows. Yet his discoveries changed everything — quietly reshaping how we think about childhood, love, loss, and the bonds that make us human.

Searching for Bowlby is not just biography — it is a historical narrative and a personal quest. It brings to life the story of the man who gave us attachment theory, showing how his fractured childhood and lifelong search for connection became the foundation of ideas that transformed therapy, parenting, and relationships.
