I guess it’s been about five years since I redid the front yard. I loved the dry riverbed I put in with rocks I got for free from friends and from FB Marketplace. I loved the cute little plants that in just a few years time would fill in nicely. Well, five years later all those plants that would fill in nicely had over filled the front yard and hidden the dry riverbed I loved so much. Over the last week I have been ripping out plants with absolutely no plan at all what I was going to do once they were cleared. Yesterday I was able to fill not only my yard waste bin, but my neighbor’s as well. I thought everything was going well and I was making progress. Once the dust settled and I took a step back, all I saw was a mess. What have I done? The front yard reminds me of a toddlers hair after they decided to play barber with their parents scissors. Oh dear. I may have to put the Halloween decorations up early to hide all the bald spots.

This mystery thriller is set in England during the Nazi Blitz attack in 1940. The book is a sequel to Battlelines but can be read on its own. Two Scotland Yard detectives and a woman from Military Intelligence work to solve a mysterious murder and in doing so come across a Nazi spy plot.

The Nazis have sent in an agent to work with the head of the pro-German movement in England. That head is in charge of a secret mission that threatens the British nation. The detectives have only a limited time to discover the identity of the pro-German head in London.

Additionally, the fate of a refugee child is at stake for one of the detectives. And there remains the possibility of romance in the dark nights filled with German bombs and British deaths.

Two Regency era spinsters, one quiet and one quarrelsome, try to catch a killer before Christmas in this new historical mystery series.

Miss Judith St Clair is a frugal and pious young woman. When her father accepts a lucrative new position as the rector of a parish in Derbyshire just before Christmas, she is dismayed that she and all her siblings must move to this cold and inhospitable country while still in mourning for their mother. What’s worse, her father’s patrons are the rich and imposing Haddingtons, a family recently settled at Wycliff Castle.

Miss Louisa-Margaretta Haddington, after years of dismissing every possible suitor, is in love. But her parents, who will not consent to the match, have removed her and her reputation from harm by buying an enormous estate in Derbyshire. Louisa-Margaretta is determined to avoid everyone, but when she and the rector’s daughter both take refuge in the library to avoid dancing with gentlemen at a ball, they are unwitting witnesses to a murder.

Though each young woman despises the other, they know they will need each other’s help if they are to find the killer and save their families. With Judith’s quiet intelligence and Louisa-Margaretta’s fiery and flirtatious nature, they set out to solve the puzzle. But when one of them has a brush with death disguised as a hunting accident, they realise that they must be quick, or they shall risk running out of time.
