I was thinking this morning about how there are a lot of people in my past, from grammar school up to high school, even past jobs, that I lived my life next to for long periods of time and who for whatever reason, I never got to know at all but unknowingly affected. A conversation around the campfire last night brought up an old classmate that I ran into a year or so ago at a shop she worked at. We were not friends in high school, and I thought we never said a word to one another. When she saw me she greeted me with a big smile and called me by my name. She told me that high school was very hard for her and that people were often very cruel. She told me about how I was always so nice to her and what a difference it made. I am glad I was nice. I don’t know why I wouldn’t be. For a few months I would see her working and we would chat it up for a bit. I think she left that job because I haven’t seen her in a while. Hmmph… just a passing thought. It’s nice to know in her story I was one of the good guys.
