A few days ago I went for a bike ride. I have been trying to get out at least three times a week. A few days ago I decided to push myself a bit and this morning, as soon as I got on my bike, I was feeling it. Yikes! My legs were jelly and super sore. Today I was not going to push myself. Off I went down my street, not a care in the world. That pleasant feeling left pretty quick two streets down from my house. It happened so fast my brain didn’t fully process it right away. Thankfully my body took charge. In my peripheral I caught the site of two small children, no older than 6 years, standing side by side at the end of a driveway. The morning sun was shining behind them making the golden blond curls on their head glow like halos. They were not moving. Just staring down the road. The sight was so jarring I didn’t even notice that my legs had decided to peddle faster, completely disregarding the soreness that had once held me back. Nope. As I flew down the street to the path along the train tracks, the eeriness of that scene sunk in. I have watched enough YouTube videos to know that THEY take on innocent forms to lure you in. I took another way home after my ride avoiding that house at all costs.

Laugh-out-loud true story of going broke and moving to a wreck in France
Who hasn’t dreamt of living in France? For Susie that dream comes true… but not in the way she had imagined.
Yes, the countryside is spacious and peaceful… on summer nights the stars skim the rooftops, the owls hoot and the nightingales sing. Sunflowers smile from their fields. Then there’s the food and the wine… the wine is cheap and the baguettes are crusty. The French neighbours are generous and gentle.
But then come the drug addicts, builders who cannot build, demanding compatriots, undercover cops and unwelcome guests.
Susie begins to lose hope of attracting the fabled French philanderer and, far from appreciating their new home, the animals do everything they can to make life as difficult as possible.
With her house literally crumbling around her, the number of odd characters Susie manages to attract are only matched by the assortment of creatures appearing from in and out of the woodwork.
When her husband almost dies, Susie’s resilience and good humour are tested to the limit.
Sometimes it feels more like taking part in a musical comedy than starting a new life in France.
