When I was a kid I used to think if you looked at the sun during an eclipse you would go blind instantly. Like it has some sort of super power. I knew if you looked at the sun long enough you would damage your eyes, but that took a bit of time. Looking at an eclipse meant instant blindness. I have no idea why I thought that. There were a lot of things I believed as a kid that I don’t think anyone actually told me. Kids brains are weird. I completely missed the eclipse yesterday. I didn’t really see the need to try and witness something I couldn’t even look at. I know there are ways to view it safely, but with so many amazing photographers out there, I decided to just look at their work instead.

Two generations face heartbreak and injustice in this poignant and emotional novel inspired by true events.
Mary Roberts is an impoverished child living in a council flat in 1950’s London. When she and her sister are left at an orphanage by their mother, they don’t think their lives can get any worse.
Harry Evans is an orphan who finds himself, with Mary and her sister, on board a ship bound for Australia. They’re sent to a farm school for children, where abuse and neglect are rife. A journey that will change their lives forever, and from which they’ll never return.
Married to her dream man, and with a baby on the way, Dr Mia Sato’s life is in perfect order. When her beloved grandmother has a fall, the photograph clutched in her hand prompts Mia to ask questions her grandmother isn’t willing to answer. When she cries out a confession that rocks Mia to her core, it leads to a shocking discovery of a past filled with lies, broken families and forced child migration.
Based on one of Britain’s most secret and shameful real-life scandals in which over 100,000 British children were forcibly deported to Canada, South Africa, and Australia over several decades.
Bronwen Pratley’s heartbreaking, captivating and ultimately uplifting tale reminds us that no matter where the journey leads us, our heart will always find its way home to those we love.

Genre: Literature & Fiction

When Jesse McDermitt leaves the Marine Corps, he has no plans in place for the rest of his life. His greatest skill is neutralizing the enemy from up to a mile away, but there are few opportunities in the civilian world for a warrior. He only knows he doesn’t want to spend the coming winter wearing a heavy coat and boots.
Jesse knows his way around boats and has an old friend in the Florida Keys, living day to day in paradise. Being an experienced diver and angler, Jesse immediately heads south toward the end of the road in Key West, a long dormant dream in his thoughts. With the help of friends, new and old, and a bulging bank account, Jesse finds just the right boat to not only live on, but soon uses to start a “very part-time” charter business. Things go smoothly until a barefoot Carolina girl, a Cat-5 hurricane, and a human trafficker all conspire against him at the same time.
Danger lurks in the sparkling waters off the sleepy little town of Marathon, in the heart of the Florida Keys, as well as in the dark, murky waters of the Everglades. But danger doesn’t expect to run into someone like Jesse McDermitt — a man who will not only respond swiftly in facing it, but with overwhelming force.

Genre: Women’s Fiction | Romance

My proper southern belle mama might disagree, but I say I was born to be a rebel. From the second I got my hands on a pair of drumsticks, my future was sealed. I never fit in anyway, not with my rocker soul and curves that never take a day off.
But what’s a drummer without a band? Oh, that’s right. A cocktail waitress.
That is, until the chance of a lifetime falls into my lap — Unrequited needs a drummer, and I happen to have an ‘in’ with the band.
The only trouble is, Santiago Garza, Unrequited’s broody, scowly bassist, doesn’t want me in his band, which is kind of funny, considering he was the one who took my heart and stomped all over it five years ago.
My career is far more important than hurt feelings though, so Santiago can suck it up and deal. That’s what I’m doing, no matter how many times I remember the feel of his lips on mine. I won’t fall for him this time. I’m done being anyone’s second choice.
