I swore I wasn’t going to cater to the monarchs in my garden anymore after last year’s disaster with aphids. I spent a whole Summer with aphid infested milkweed that was black and soooo disgusting. Only to find maybe seven monarch caterpillars. My garden is too small to hate such a huge chunk of it. I vowed that the next year would be a ME year. I would plant flowers that I liked, not necessarily were for bees, butterflies, or any other awesome cool bug. I just saw an article about the Monarch way stations. I didn’t even read it, but now I have all these ideas of where I want to plant Milkweed this year.

The Legend Is Born: The Legends of Lainjin, Book Three
by Gerald R. Knight
(27 Reviews)
Genre: Mythology & Folk Tales | Fantasy | Historical Fiction
FREE for a limited time
This faraway, pre-contact story begins with Helkena, a young, still untattooed girl enduring a typhoon crashing over the only island she has ever known. Her home is Wotto, one of the dry, windswept atolls of the northern Marshall Islands. The newborn infant Lainjin has just been entrusted to her care by his mother, who has sailed her fleet of proas into the open ocean to save them from certain destruction.
Helkena, having barely survived the storm, must now travel to Namdik, a wet atoll in the southern rain belt of the Ralik Chain. As Lainjin’s surrogate mother, she will sail with the infant by outrigger canoe in the company of his maternal grandfathers. These kind men had recently helped the Wotto Islanders overcome the terrible drought that typically follows a typhoon. With the trade-wind season approaching, it’s soon time to complete their voyage. The grandfathers begin teaching Helkena the traditional navigational arts along the way.
Her goal is to get her tattoos on Namdik and, in time, to find a man there to take home to Wotto. She will need help to manage her matrilineally inherited lands, and she is related to most men in that small, dry world. But will she entice a man from the lush south to her barren desert island?
Far from being a simple story, this colorful, romantic tale presents a surprising background to the lovemaking culture of the Marshall Islands. It also reveals the early years of young Lainjin, the hero of the Legends of Lainjin historical literary fiction series.

by Ray N. Kuili

Genre: Science Fiction

What happens when you delegate creativity to computers? Would that empower humanity or rob it of something crucial that it has been taking for granted throughout its history? And what would this mean for artists, established and aspiring alike?
Story two of The Dawn series explores these questions, which have suddenly moved from sci-fi to the world we live in. When a prominent art expert, Sean Davis, is asked by the leading AI company to teach art to their system, he doesn’t know how far that request will take him — and what kinds of stunning discoveries he will make on the way.
More about The Dawn: Rise of AI Chronicles
When it comes to artificial intelligence, we’re no longer in a “what if?” reality. We’re squarely in a “now what?” world. From books to financial markets, from healthcare to research, the age of artificial intelligence has arrived. We’re in for a ride, and it’s anything but smooth. What will the world look like as we share it with the genie we let out of its silicon bottle? How will AI evolve? Perhaps, even more important, how will we?
The Dawn series tries to answer these questions in the language people have always used to model the future: the language of story. In a dozen intertwining stories, taking place in a slightly alternative present-day reality and its near future, The Dawn attempts to show how our lives, for better or for worse, will inevitably change with the arrival of AI. And it’s up to you, the reader, to decide how successful the series is at that ambitious task.
