Why are scooters such a thing? They are everywhere! I get why kids love them, but adults? It looks like a lot of work to get from point A to point B on a scooter. Even the ones with motors! There is balancing you need to do, and don’t forget avoiding rocks and people. On my way through town the other day, I saw a guy flying down the road on his motorized scooter. He was zipping around pretty fast and even throwing in a few tricks here and there. He looked about 25 years old. I was kinda impressed, until he tried to do a jump and bit it hard on the road. Legs and arms all over the place. I’m not sure if it was embarrassment that made him get back up so fast, or the desire not to get hit by a car. I am certain over the next few days his body will age from early 20’s to about 35 or 40.

A darkly comic tale about how winning the lottery can ruin your life. And it’s only downhill from there…
A support group for lottery winners? It shouldn’t exist. It was just a PR exercise. An afterthought. Nobody was actually supposed to turn up. Why, after all, would millionaires need support?
But turn up they do, every Wednesday in a tired church hall in North London, among them an ex-builder, a model train fanatic, a well-spoken conman and now, downtrodden lawyer, Mark Jones.
The win is the worst thing that’s ever happened to Mark. His girlfriend, Jess, is unimpressed. Winning the lottery is common. And besides, £10 mil doesn’t buy much in Chelsea these days. Convinced by Jess to keep the windfall secret and a newly miserable owner of a double life, Mark joins this unlikely gang.
Together they bicker, drink tea and try to find meaning in their millions, blissfully unaware that their real problems are lurking around the corner. For someone is on a mission to end all their woes. Permanently.

The old farmhouse on Little Wye Creek is creepy enough to be a murder scene, and there’s even a dead man on the lawn, but Grace Reagan hopes the infamous Garret Bishop is just pulling another lame publicity stunt. Wealthy, eccentric Bishop has ‘survived’ an avalanche, a hijacking, and a kidnapping plot. Did he die for real this time in a tragic accident, or was he helped along to his last headline? Bishop’s death shocks everyone, especially Grace, who’s so close to escaping the village of Mallard Bay she can nearly taste the lime in a Key West daiquiri. She has a few things to do before she goes, though, and selling the old Morgan farm is on the list. Even though the purchase contract in Bishop’s coat pocket has a bullet hole in it, Grace isn’t giving up. She’s leaving Mallard Bay for good, and nothing’s going to stop her, not even a murder.

Forty, foxy, and fond of forensics.
Moving back to my old stopping grounds came with more trouble than I bargained for. I left my investigation agency back in Fort Worth, to start over free from stress.
Two weeks into my retired life, I found myself in a 55+ community — HELLO! Only 43, thank you — and bored out of my mind. I was not cut out for early retirement.
So, I did what any attractive single lady would do — jump as far out of my comfort zone as possible. My mama laughed me out of the kitchen when I told her about my new job as a baker’s assistant, but that was nothing compared to her reaction when I dropped the bomb about the new murder case I was working.
Served up in right in my backyard of all places.
At least it was as far away from the adultery I used to solve. While I had my doubts about taking on the case, the country Sheriff put his full faith in me. Not to mention the deputy that came along with the job — boy was he going to be trouble with a capital T.
Here’s to hoping my keen eye can solve the case before my nerves get the best of me.
