Something just occurred to me. I get frustrated with my two 10 pound pups when they go nuts barking at the front door every time someone knocks. I look at them and think to myself, “You are only ten pounds! What Could you possibly do to anyone who is bigger than you? What are you thinking?” This coming from the person who jumps into bed at night as fast as she can, so the monster under the bed doesn’t grab her foot and drag her to gosh only knows where. Nether one of us is correct in our thinking, but who would you rather be? The brave pups doing everything in their power to protect the house, no matter who is actually at the door? Or would you rather be the grown adult still scared of am imaginary boogie man under the bed? Here’s my sandwich pups, I don’t deserve it.

The Best of Men – an epic fantasy (Song of Ages Book 1)

Genre: Science Fiction & Fantasy

Something is coming.
Seama Beltomé can feel it. He can see it.
The four nations of Asteranor are already at war or soon will be. But what’s coming is worse than that.
Seama is reading Haslem’s Song of Ages. Or whatever’s left of it. An obscure history of mankind, it announced its presence by bursting into flames in the Escartine Library. The few pages rescued reveal a tantalising glimpse of the Earth’s deep past, a revelation of Ages and deeds unknown.
And they carry a dark warning:
what is forgotten cannot cease to have been,
a crime against existence cannot be undone,
and the banished will seek to return.
Seama has been summoned because the time has come.
Something more dangerous than death, an ancient evil, stands just beyond the gates of the world.
It waits only on a passage opened, a door unlocked.
Seama can hear the rattle of the keys.
Set on an Earth remade, The Best of Men is volume one of the Song of Ages trilogy, an epic fantasy of monsters, gods, warriors and wizards, of heedless villains and decent everyday people.
This debut novel from Wilf Jones marries the dark epic fantasy styles of George RR Martin and Jack Vance to the post-apocalyptic jaunts of Stephen Lawrence and Joe Abercrombie, with something of the Eddings Belgariad thrown in for good measure.

“I’m not kissing you to get it over with. When I kiss you for the first time, you’re going to want that kiss more than your next breath.”
Kristine Stone was strong enough to break out of an abusive marriage, but is she strong enough for the road that lies ahead? For the first time in her life, Kristine finds she has some control over her life. Haunted by her ex-husband and a newly acquired stalker, she leaves Montana to work in the U.S. Senate. But first? She issues a moratorium on dating. This hardly deters Kadyn Rand, the Air Force Captain who threatens to tear down every wall she’s ever built. Will Kristine trust him enough to discover what true love really is or will she remain forever broken?
Tall, dark, and determined are the words that best describe Kadyn Rand. He is intelligent, resourceful, and a fiercely devoted friend. His sense of humor runs on the sarcastic side. He’s also the kind of guy who likes to keep people guessing about what’s going on inside his head, which is why he makes a conscious effort not to smile. That is until he meets Kristine Stone. Her missteps regularly get a smile out of him. Her moratorium on dating intrigues him, while her vulnerability calls to his protective side. Kadyn tries to earn Kristine’s love and her trust but soon learns it will take much more than that to save her from her past.
