My reaction to looking around the corner and seeing my house on fire wasn’t what I would have thought. I didn’t get a chance to think, only react. It’s nice to know that in case of emergency, my brain and body will put their differences aside, and work together. I can’t say I had any part in what happened next. I was just a spectator. My brain and body took over. As soon as I saw the fire, I ran to the bedroom window where hubby was sleeping and screamed “THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE! GET THE KIDS OUT!!” Hubby moved quick. He and the kids made it to the front door as fast as I did. There was a man banging on our door trying to alert us. Hubby opened it, and the man handed him his cell phone with 911 already on the line. The man quickly grabbed a hose and started working on the fire. Kids outside, Hubby outside by the fire, me dialing 911 on the land line then hanging up. I grabbed Junebug and threw her in the crate and put her outside. Next I grabbed poor old Sinny and he went in another crate and put him outside with Junebug. Now Casper. Little jerk. I had to chase him all over the house. He was freaking out. Brain and body kicked it into high gear and caught him. Into the crate with Sinny. Family and pets all safe. I stood outside and watched as two police cars raced down our street, quickly followed by three huge fire trucks. Firefighters are such calming people.
