Have you ever had one of those days when you knew for a fact that Santa added you to his Naughty List? Yesterday was that day for me. I think the pressure of the holiday season finally got to me. My breaking point came yesterday when my youngest had a headache, but was afraid to swallow an aspirin. He was worried he might choke. This is the same kid I have watched unhinge his jaw to get a full cheeseburger in his mouth, but for some reason a tiny aspirin was going to break him. After five minutes of bargaining I finally snapped. I am still unsure if it was the aspirin that broke me or the fact that I had been up since 3am running around getting everything done I needed to. I am hoping I can keep it together today, but it’s not looking good. I just got in another fight with my cat. We are not on speaking terms right now.

Historian-for-hire Wrenn Grayson takes on a difficult client in Kerry St. John. Kerry seeks justice for his great-grandfather’s lifelong heartache.
Wrenn meets the renowned jeweler through words recorded in his tattered journal.
The year is 1946. He writes from the tiny crossroads of Wyatt, Ohio, about the theft of a treasured locket and the identity of three possible suspects.
The cold case heats up when Lori Hammond arrives.
The stolen locket was discovered among her mother’s possessions after her death. Lori refuses to return it to the St. John family, so Wrenn sets out to follow the locket’s path through history. Next, Lori is attacked and Kerry accused. If Kerry’s not guilty, then who is? That question sends cold whispers from the past down Wrenn’s spine.
In Designs on Ivy’s Locket, Connie Chappell focuses on the theme of parents and children, separated by death, by theft, and by design.
Though the historian’s extensive knowledge has her barreling towards the answers, it’s the seemingly dead ends and the detective-for-hire’s one-of-a-kind process that’ll have fans flipping the page. – Best Thrillers

I’ve got two choices. Join the Undercover Protectorate. Or die.
In a world of controlled magic, I’m an Unknown. Deadly power, little control. I’m only alive because I pay a Blood Sorcerer to keep me hidden. But when he comes to collect on the debt I can’t pay, one of his goons slams me with a deadly curse. Suddenly, I’m out of options and out of time.
When I’m given a rare chance to join the elite Undercover Protectorate and train at their academy to become an investigator, I have a way to hunt the cure for the curse. They have resources I don’t. Easy, since I’m broke.
Seems like a good plan, right? At least, until they tell me Cade will be joining me on my hunt for the Blood Sorcerer. He’s an actual Celtic war god–and the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. The catch? I can’t let him know that I’m an Unknown, or I’m out on my ass and deader than Hades.
Undercover Magic is a fast-paced urban fantasy with a kick-butt heroine, a tough hero, and magic that will knock your socks off.

This award winning legal thriller tells the story of Freddie Edwards, a black man on trial for the brutal murder of an elderly white man. Was Freddie a monster or a hero when he took the old man’s life? How did he come to be at the place that so dramatically changed his life? This book examines the moment of the crime from every perspective, and leaves it to the reader to decide what Freddie’s fate should be. Beautiful relationships wrapped in a dark mystery from the distant past impact this trial for his life. His sister Ruby and old friend Annabelle became friends during the shadow of the Great Depression, crossing the boundaries that separated them by race. These two old friends are reunited at Freddie’s murder trial. Neither of them want to believe their childhood hero would commit such a heinous crime. To them, Freddie was always the “Black Knight” who rescued them from childhood traumas. But now, Freddie finds himself on trial for the brutal murder of an elderly man of stellar reputation, facing the death penalty, represented by an incompetent attorney, and unlikely to receive the justice he thinks, but isn’t sure, he deserves. They have only one choice. They must delve into the past to discover evidence that can save him from the electric chair. Their choice takes them through a journey through the horror that all of them have tried for years to forget.
Justice for the Black Knight is the story of a 1981 trial, where Annabelle and Ruby reach back into the past to try to prove that Freddie is a hero instead of a villain. It is an inspirational tale of friendship extending beyond the borders of race, which also takes an exciting and realistic look at the process of obtaining justice through the legal system.
