If I had to run in a race, I would run a race with tortoises. I wouldn’t be rude about it, I would run a little slower. It would be nice to be in a race where you have a chance to talk and get to know the other competitors. I bet in the end the tortoise would still end up winning. Just my luck.

Plantagenet was once a peaceful planet, with its seven independent islands governed by the principles of democracy and freedom for all. But when one dictator comes to power, the peace of the other island colonies is destroyed. Only the Isle of Mirth is marginally spared from Dictator Akko’s tyranny on the Island of Etalon, but their freedom comes at a price. All the young men of Mirth have disappeared in the war, and the young girls are ordered to marry the men that remain by order of proclamation of the High Council – no matter how much older those men may be. Henceforth, Mirth is to be called the Isle of Grief. Laura Green is forced to marry the wealthiest and most ingenious of the council members, but she refuses his entreaties for love. When the young soldier Christopher comes into her life, the truth of what really happened to Mirth’s young men is revealed, and a plot unfurls to reclaim the young soldiers that perhaps never perished in the War at all. Christopher and Laura work together to pull off one of the most unlikely and challenging rebellions in the history of Plantagenet, but thanks to the help of the women of Mirth – trained to be soldiers and shipbuilders – they just might overtake Akko, overthrow the council, and restore the peace and freedom that they once knew. Looming above the whole tale, with its deadly battles, deceit, redemption, love lost and love found, there is an entire untapped galaxy that only Laura is smart enough to explore with her mind, and her heart.

Will Morse lives alone in a remote cabin in the mountains north of Atlanta, grieving over the loss of two of his daughters and the collapse of his marriage and career. Over Christmas, Will receives a visit from his only remaining child, his daughter Alicia, who broke off contact with him five years ago. Alicia informs Will that she’s getting married in the spring, and asks him to attend the wedding. Alicia’s wedding is an opportunity for an aging Will to reconnect with his family and regain part of what he has lost. But Will struggles with his still-raw emotions over his role in his daughter Trixie’s suicide, and the resulting loss and grief. Will tries to reach out to the few women in his life to find a date, and makes an unexpected connection with Dorothy Crawford, a writer who shows up at his door, seeking directions. Will develops feelings for Dorothy, but finds that she has secrets of her own. As the wedding nears, Will must find a way to put the pain and guilt he feels Trixie’s death behind him, weigh the pain he feels at Dorothy’s betrayal with his own need for forgiveness, and pull himself together for his daughter’s sake. RAIN ON YOUR WEDDING DAY is a poignant, wrenching story about a father’s love, a daughter’s compassion, and the universal need for forgiveness and redemption.

Recipes and advice from a Belgian mother in a California kitchen. When I cook for my family I try to be mindful of everyone’s different taste while making sure to provide the opportunity of getting out of their comfort zone. Trying to teach my kids to be adventurous and open to new cuisine and flavor variety is a driving force for me. A few years ago, we moved from Belgium to Los Angeles. With Whole Foods, farmer markets and fresh organic produce everywhere we turn, the local resources in this city are truly inspiring. I have always loved to cook ingredients as they are, to leave them true to their character and try not to cover them with too much spices or sauces. Moving to California has pushed me even more in that direction. The winter flavors and Holiday dishes are my favorite. They take me back to my childhood and I am flooded with memories of family gatherings when I was a little girl.
