My timeline on Facebook was filled with nothing but back to school pictures of kids. All wearing backpacks, next to the school sign, or in front of the house. How awful am I that I didn’t want to post my baby basset’s pictures yesterday because I knew it would get lost in the sea of all the other pictures. That, and I was pretty lazy. I was really happy that I remembered to bring my camera. Okay… I didn’t actually remember to bring my camera… my camera is on my phone, but that counts. I did threaten my baby bassets yesterday morning over breakfast that if they didn’t smile and take the picture today at school without me yelling at them, they would never see their video games again. Ya.. mamma doesn’t mess around.
My Journey Through War and Peace: Explorations of a Young Filmmaker, Feminist and Spiritual Seeker (The Heroine’s Journey Book 1)
Melissa Burch

Genre: Travel | Sports & Outdoors | Biographies & Memoirs
FREE for a limited time
“My Journey Through War and Peace: Explorations of a Young Filmmaker, Feminist and Spiritual Seeker” is based on Melissa Burch’s experiences as a war journalist for BBC, CBS, and other networks. Her team was one of the first documentary crews allowed in the Soviet Union at the height of the Cold War, and she was featured in a New York Times story about her time in Afghanistan. She was just in her twenties when she traveled with the mujahideen, filmed an attack on a Soviet convoy, slept with an Afghan commander, and climbed 14,000-foot mountains in the Hindu Kush. “My Journey Through War and Peace” examines how, through outward action and inward exploration, life can unfold in mysterious ways, far beyond cultural and family expectations. In looking back at this momentous decade, Burch shares why she pursued such dangerous and difficult circumstances at such a young age and continued to live on the edge. She now understands that she was seeking self-discovery, a connection to something greater, and ultimately inner peace. This exciting memoir will resonate with fans of “Eat Pray Love,” “Wild,” and other popular memoirs that describe extraordinary inner and outer journeys.

The long awaited sequel to Diane Moody’s bestselling Of Windmills and War. When the war finally ended in May of 1945, Lieutenant Danny McClain made good on his promise to come back for Anya in Holland. He expected her to put up a fight, but instead found her exhausted and utterly broken. Maybe it was unfair, asking her to marry him when she was so vulnerable. But this much he knew: he would spend a lifetime helping to make her whole again. The war had taken everything from Anya–her family, her friends, her home, her faith. She clung to the walls she’d fortressed around her heart, but what future did she have apart from Danny? At least she wouldn’t be alone anymore. Or so she thought. When the American troops demobilize, Danny is sent home, forced to leave Anya behind in England. There she must wait with the other 70,000 war brides for passage to America. As England picks up the pieces of war’s debris in the months that follow, Anya shares a flat with three other war brides in London and rediscovers the healing bond of friendships. Once again, Danny and Anya find themselves oceans apart, their marriage confined to little more than the handwritten pages of their letters while wondering if the shadow of war will ever diminish.
