Happy Fourth of July!! Said no dog ever! That actually might change this year for my pup, Jethro. Over the last year he has lost most of his hearing and has not even flinched once at any of the booms and bangs that have been happening all weekend. Having an deaf old dog has so many bonuses that it’s a wonder there are any old pups in shelters. All he knows right now is that the BBQ has been going for the past two days and he is getting treats. My kitty Sinny seems to be taking comfort in Jethro’s calm attitude as well, but tonight I won’t be taking any chances. They will both be locked in the bedroom with either Animal Planet or Discovery channels playing on the TV. I always say… nothing says relax quite like Shark Week. It’s still Shark week, right? It’s okay if it isn’t. I DVR’d it to show to my baby bassets if they ever wanted to take up surfing. NOM NOM NOM!

The church was empty when I dragged myself out of the pew and headed out the door. As I opened the door, the corner of my eye caught a flicker of movement which I chose to ignore. I walked down the steps and was nearly bowled over by two wild boys. With arms grown strong and quick from man-handling two brothers growing up, I grabbed the two boys before they had a chance to escape me. Anna Stuart is comfortable with her life. She may be a 30 year old spinster, but she has her routine and enjoys taking care of her father and older brother. One letter shatters all her routines, comfort, and enjoyment. After learning of her brother’s death, Anna feels like her life will never be the same again. Then she meets two motherless boys. Did God place them in her life to lead her to a new vision of life? Can she trust God to give her the desires of her heart before she even knows what they are? Note from the Author: Even though this book is the 2nd in the series, reading A Mighty Fortress is not essential to reading Be Thou My Vision. That being said, some things in A Mighty Fortress would help you to further understand some of the backstory in this book.

Diary of America
Jay Ross

“I enjoyed tremendously the Dairy of America. The format, telling the history of America from America’s point of view is clever and innovative. Starting with the year 1783 and ending in the present, the protagonist (America) devotes a page or two of events happening each year. The entire manuscript has a fine balance of facts, opinion and humor. The clever cartoons augment the text and are a delight to read, laugh and enjoy. Diary of America is a book to read and keep handy nearby. It is great for providing an interesting easy to read history to the uninformed and even greater for bringing to mind so many already known but long forgotten facts to the well-read person in a volume containing less than 20,000 words stretching across 238 years. The appendix contains a list of the Fifty States with pertinent facts and a few quotes from famous persons from each state. My Presidents are listed in chronological order according to their term in office and their party affiliation. The Timeline helps keep all information in order. The Vocabulary defines a goodly assortment of words in easily understood terms. The Index provides quick access to each entry, Diary of America ends with a summary of America’s accomplishments and a challenge to readers to do further research and to encourages them to make their individual addition to America’s values and dreams.” -Lois Meier (Jay’s 94 year old grandmother)
