It’s one of those morning that is just not going right. It is Friday today and it is acting more like a Monday. I am going to shake this off and just look forward to the chocolate cake and carrot cake I will be having on Sunday. What I should have is a single slice of cake hanging on the wall in a glass case that says “Break in case of emergency.”

In the spring of 2007, two best friends inadvertently start a popular rock band while driving a stolen delivery truck across the western United States.
Blake Caldaro, a rum-obsessed 22-year-old, finds himself sobering up on the northbound highway out of Puerto Vallarta with more bottles than he could ever drink and the keys to another man’ s truck. Joining him for the ride is his carefree and ever-sarcastic friend, Booker. Despite narrowly escaping the country intact, the pair quickly grow restless and decide to take the truck back on the road. Anything – even the risk of getting caught – is better than their dead-end lives in L. A.
In a Denver bar, they become friends with a loner passing through town. The trio jokingly begin to pose as a touring band, happily enjoying the perks of fake stardom as they repeat the hoax each night in a different city and venue. Their band quickly gains popularity on a brand new social media forum – Twitter – and they soon face the unexpected challenges of their increasing fame.
This roving narrative explores the live-for-today mentality of the young and aimless while embracing the binds of friendship and adulthood. A Rum Truck is both deadpan and insightful, and it is the quirky and unapologetic narrator who ultimately steals the spotlight.

Married just shy of two weeks, vivacious, charismatic 32-year old Carla learns she has malignant, inoperable colon cancer. Radiation to shrink the tumor brings her to the brink of death before the treatments render her cancer free. Carla, like a just-pardoned prisoner, rejoices her narrow escape from the executioner’ s grip. She resumes her interrupted marital journey with her adoring, new husband Paul. They take up residence in tony West Hartford, fly to Acapulco, dine with family and friends, entertain. Life is good. A year later, when the cancer returns with a vengeance, Carla draws upon her signature “ bring’ em on” coping strategy to manage the diagnosis and colostomy bag.
Twenty-five years after her sister Carla’ s death, the author chronicles three decades of their Irish-Italo-American family history, sparking a tender story of filial love and devotion. Carla’ s wry sense of humor prevails throughout the narrative. Set in Cambridge, Massachusetts the story traces her upbringing from the post-depression era to the hip 1960’ s. The New England characters are enveloped in a steady, unconditional acceptance and understanding that forms the core of their enduring relationship. In the fictional account, stirring emotions become unleashed by the denouement, which spills forth from the stationery box, revealing the final days of the young bride’ s life.
