Back On The Road To Key West (English Edition) Formato Kindle
“Back On The Road To Key West” reintroduces the somewhat reluctant adventurers Kansas Stamps and Will Bell, casting them into one bizarre situation after another while capturing the true flavor and feel of Key West and the Caribbean in the early 1980s.
An ancient map and a lost pirate treasure, a larcenous Bahamian scoundrel and his gang of cutthroats, a wild and crazy journey into South America in search of a magical antediluvian device, and encounters with outlandish villains and zany friends will keep you locked to your seat and giggling maniacally. You’ll also welcome back Rufus, the wacky, mystical Jamaican Rastaman, and be captivated by another “complicated romance...”

I am still not sure about this book. Bottom line is it mostly equates to a neighborhood Saturday matinee feature in the ‘50s. Only thing I’m sure of is that the one-star reviewers who got as far as being in high dudgeon over the descriptively offensive scene with the Plus Size Bar Patron should have stuck around.
About that scene let me say at the outset that – all political correctness and mysogynistic accusations aside – you’ll never convince me that most or a lot of men don’t think like that in the privacy of their own minds, no matter what their enlightened posture on women as it’s presented to the world in public, so spare me the outrage. It’s just too much of a temptation, and facts are facts: Heavy women don’t belong in tube tops, short skirts, and/or Spandex. If they insist on flaunting convention to test the waters of men’s reactions and mental self-control, they pretty much deserve what they’re going to get (at least in the observers’ minds).
What kept me around was the author’s writing style. As I’ve said before, I’m a sucker for a good yarn, either plot or style if not both. That said, this one is certainly flawed, certainly has plot devices not in my wheelhouse (anything resembling sci-fi, for instance), certainly is predictable, sometimes silly, and unrealistic. But the characters are interesting if cliched, the patter is snappy most times (if you can ignore the stereotypical pidgin), and it wasn’t dull.
I liked the writer’s style (although anyone with an aversion to even the mildest purple prose would be well advised to give this one a miss), enough to venture a try at another in the series. I’d recommend it to anyone who takes their adventure tongue-in-cheek. If Reisig’s style holds up and the plots keep me involved I’ll keep reading, up until things start getting ridiculous. After all, the first time we saw “Raiders of the Lost Ark” I doubt anyone complained about it being predictable and unrealistic.
For those who are keeping score, here are the standings:
(1) Some paranormal/supernatural/magic-type components;
(2) Mild profanity;
(3) No gooey romance;
(4) No explicit sex;
(5) Violence but not grisly;
(6) No child abuse;
(8) No animal abuse;
(9) No alternative lifestyle agenda or promotion;
(10) Not a cliffhanger ending;
(11) Grammar and punctuation police, come ahead on: I know you'll find something.
