Debby’s brother, Carl, worries about the future because of his commitment to the army. Even their mother, Lucille Reeves, although devoted to her husband and children, now hopes to broaden her personal horizons. Justin, his wife and children all are blessed by positive life changes because of Debby’s prayer.

Father and daughter together embark upon a journey which takes Justin from the darkness of shame into the light of victory. When he finally accomplishes what he wanted his whole life, Justin reaches out to his family in a special way on Christmas Day. His gift to his wife, daughters and son influences them all for a lifetime.

As the youngest in the family, growing up on a farm in Findlay, Ohio, Diane often acted out characters from her own stories in the backyard. In high school she was the student sitting in class with a novel hidden in front of her propped up textbook. Before starting on her writing career, Diane was a school teacher and play director. She met her husband while teaching at an orphanage, and they married three years later. While raising their six children in southwestern Ohio, Diane started writing nonfiction. Later, she decided it would be a nice escape to write fiction. Several non-fiction articles of Diane's have been published in Woman’s World Weekly, The Catholic Telegraph, Virtue, Down Syndrome Today, WritersWeekly.com, and several other publications. Her book, The Christmas of 1957, was reissued under the title A Christmas Gift. It placed second in the 2010 Preditors & Editors Poll (novel category) and received 5 stars from the Midwest Book Review. A Joyful Break (Dreams of Plain Daughters, Book One) received 5 stars and was a reviewer's top pick from Night Owl Reviews as well as receiving a 5 star review and January 2013’s CTRR Reviewer's Recommend Award from Coffee Time Romance and More. Additionally, it finished in fifth place in the “other” novel category of books in the 2012 Preditors & Editors Readers Poll. She writes Amish romance, contemporary romance, inspirational mainstream, chick-lit mystery, and non-fiction books. Her novels have received great reviews from readers and reviewers. Diane has published through a variety of houses, including Publishing by Rebecca J. Vickery, Samhain Publishing, Whimsical Publications, and Victory Tales Press. I don't think I have read any of Diane's books before. I could be wrong about that but I really enjoyed this one very much. I don't always like books written in the first person but this one was exceptional. The story is well written, heart warming, and full of a child's faith. Jesus says we need faith like a child and so this one is scriptural. You will love the characters.
This story is told by a seven year old, Debbie. She is the youngest of four children. Debbie gets up in the night to go to the bathroom and sees he father struggling to read her second grade book. Debbie is torn about what to do. She must tell someone. When she tells her sisters, her mother hears and admits that it is true her father cannot read. So Debbie prays for Jesus to send someone to help her dad learn to read. When her father hears what she had prayed, he tells her that Jesus already sent someone, her.
This family has many adventures throughout the book. I especially like that at the end she tells what happened to each of the characters as they grow up, I loved that about it. You really need to get a copy of this story, especially with the holidays coming up. A great read!

This is the second book that I've read by Diane. I was not disappointed with either A Joyful Break or A Gift Forever. The latter was a shorter book that I wasn't expecting to end so quickly. I found it to be uncluttered. By that I mean that she did not give us a lot of unnecessary detail. Great! The story was well written and was easy to read. It was evident that this was a very close family and what affected one member affected the others. The youngest daughter, Debra, showed the determined spirit of this family when she took steps to change the situation which had been her father's heartbreaking secret for so long. She even turned to prayer for guidance in this matter. This inspiring story was mixed with sickness, disappointment, determination, and even romance. The father's letters to each family member was especially touching. Looking forward to reading more of Diane' s writings.

A Gift Forever was a very heart warming read.

Debby is beside herself when is discovers a secret that her father is keeping. Late one night, Debby gets up to use the bathroom and see discovers her father trying to copy down and read words from one of her school books. She is shocked to see her father struggling with a simple word like daughter. She tries to figure out why her father is having such a hard time with the words in her book. She finally comes to the conclusion that her father can not read. She needs to find out if that is true. Her mother confirms that her father never learned how to read. Debby sets out to confront and help her father learn how to read.

This story was great it is amazing that a young girl wants to help her father do something that he has struggled with for years. It is amazing what love can help people to do.

You must read this wonderful story and see great things happen over is course of events.

I highly recommend it.

This story took me back to my own childhood, back in the day when Christmas was more about the people and the sentiments more than the huge gifts. It was a simpler time, and I miss those days. I laughed and cried over this book, something I don't do often.

Diane has a way to really bring out a character's personality, and she did so with Debby. I loved that character!

Great job, Diane! You certainly made my day with this story, one I hope to read over and over again, every Christmas.

This book really touched my heart. For several reasons. For one, Debby reminds me of my youngest daughter who has been mindful of Godly things all her life. The spiritual life is just reality. Too because of them wonderful family love and tenderness they all had for each other. I actually read the book two times and plan for my daughter to read it also. Thanks for sharing this story.
