Into Uncharted Seas (Westerly Gales Book 3) (English Edition) Formato Kindle
Readers of the two previous novels in the series, "Westerly Gales" and "Cruise of the Albatros", has this to say about them: "Great story about a possible future..." The comparisons to Patrick O'Brian are justified" ..." It's a bit like "Back to the Future" meets Horatio Hornblower. It is terrific and fast moving." "This was an excellent combination of post apocalyptic and naval fiction, making it one of the most unique examples of the former I have ever read"..."I've sorely missed O'Brien with his untimely passing. But weep no more, as E.C. Williams has gracefully stepped to the fore front. One of the best sea stories I've ever read, and I've read many and many of them."

The Afrikaans slang was a chuckle too, having grown up in South African.

Loved the new details on the time of troubles and looking forward to know more about the Califate.
Only thing I think it could be improve is that sometimes it can be repetitive, for instance we learned on the first time they use it that the sterling engine on the towboat needs to be warmed up, no need to repeat it every time.

This book is perhaps the best written of the three with more attention to plot detail and pacing, better development of minor characters and a richer explanation of the world around these characters. It does help if you have some nautical understanding; when at sea there is always some splicing, trimming and shifting to be done. But Mr. Williams pulls back the camera a bit to show us more of the new world and provide some explanation of how it came to be, and we learn more of the Arab opponents who threaten the Kergs. Much like Taylor Anderson's "Destroyerman" series, Mr. Williams is faced with providing us a larger story without sacrificing the more intimate feel of the characters we've come to know. He does that well, and we are introduced to new characters who help advance the story line.
A concern and a nit: the concern is that (without spoiling the plot) we have a chapter to show us the other side, the Arabs. All well and good, but the story actually works better if it is confined to what Sam and his people see. Let the opponent remain the "Other" and we feel the tension Sam feels about the imminent threat to his way of life. My hope is that book four will remain focused on the Kergs.
The nit: once again Amazon does a poor job of copy editing and typesetting. There are numerous punctuation and typographical errors, just enough for you to notice and to interrupt the flow.

Add in the fact that the Kerguelen's can't seem to do anything wrong, are magically capable of producing ships, guns, supplies, etc. (and can invent new guns and airplanes) not only on time but always ahead of schedule, and can get anything they want politically with only a little dinner conversation, and it's moving from fiction to unbelievable fantasy.
Don't get me wrong, the author is an excellent writer and obviously he knows where he is taking us in the story, I just think focusing a bit and bringing some reality into the fiction would make the journey more interesting.
