Jake is 9 and finds a snow globe in his room. On Christmas morning, 5 inches of blue snow are on his street.
Lots of lessons in this one, as well. It stresses the importance that the best presents are not expensive and one should be excited by life.
It is recommended for those aged 9 and older, but I think the younger ones will enjoy it, too. They will meet Eric the Elf, Sid the Snowman and of course, Santa. Santa also tells the origin of the candy cane which is cute, also.
Most highly recommended.

Jake is a wonderful young boy. At 9 years old, he is a very curious and resourceful person. One day he makes a wish that changes his life.
I downloaded this book last Christmas when it was released, but unfortunately wasn't able to get to read it until now. This is a fantastic story that is extremely humourous and touching. I loved meeting Jake and his family; they are your typical family, with their own peculiarities. However, there is a great mystery afoot, in the form of a suddenly appearing snow globe, and street full of blue snow. The mystery only deepens when an elf called Eric comes to the house, with an invitation that Jake cannot refuse.
This is a charming Christmas tale that had me giggling, and made me feel all warm and fuzzy. I loved meeting all the characters, especially Sid, the snowman, who's wish for a tangerine for a nose instead of a carrot had me grinning. Not to mention Santa! The mystery of the blue snow is solved in jaw dropping fashion, and Santa has a proposition for Jake that is totally mind-blowing! I was completely envious of Jake, and wonder if he will be visiting Santa again this coming Christmas!
Nicola Palmer has written a fantastic Christmas story that is extremely entertaining, and will keep young readers hooked from the first page! I love this authors writing style, which is fast paced, but easy enough for young readers to follow. I love her Alice Parker series too, and I am looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future.
I highly recommend this book for both boys and girls aged 9+ as either a stocking filler, or as a "just because" gift. However, I also recommend this book to adults who love the YA genre, or who are young at heart. - Lynn Worton

Jake is being watched. They left a note for him telling him so. Unfortunately, the note writer forgot to tell who was watching and why.
When Jake was 7 he left a cheese and pickle sandwich for Santa Claus.
These three random events makes this year Christmas extra special, not only for Jake but his whole family.
This tightly written story is for an older child I would think 9 or older. As the lack of belief in Santa Claus is a major theme.
In this story Jake's belief in Santa Claus allows amazing things to happen.
I found this to be an interesting and fun story.
FYI there are no illustrations in the story, however, the book cover hints at several story points.
I would love to see a sequel.
I HIGHLY recommend this story for older children and adults.

The writing style is easy for a child to follow - I'm going to try it on my 8 year old Granddaughter over the holiday! It doesn't patronise though, and is eloquent enough to engage an adult's attention. I love to try a few Christmas stories at this time of year and this one is a good one! It touches upon the heavily burdened mum, cooking the dinner for family and guests, the dad who has to work on the day and misses out on family time, but mainly, young Jake, who feels people are missing the magic of the season by falling asleep after lunch. I agree with him. If you haven't got children to read this story to, read it for yourself and remember when you felt the magic. You'll enjoy it.
