"One of the most honest books you'll ever have the pleasure of reading..."
The father of an autistic child embarks on an incredible journey of personal development following a slide into emotional and financial crisis.
As problems mount and his son's autism worsens, he realises he is his own worst enemy and begins to unearth the true meaning of his life.
Set during the Global Financial Crisis, this true story of a father overcoming his demons for the sake of his children will inspire anyone struggling through their own times of crisis.
Beset - A modern memoir about an enlightening journey of self-improvement.
"Ninety-nine percent of this story is true, one percent is outrageous liberty taking. Although I may only be ninety-nine percent telling the truth when I say that, I only really remember one percent of what happened." – Lee Bullen

Beset had just lost his job as a teacher when his son was diagnosed with autism. Him and his wife refused the fat at first, just thinking that they had not worked with him enough. After learning that their sons autism was getting progressively worse, their relationship was more strained than ever. The fact that they had hardly interacted before and now they did not interact at all led them to a divorce.
During the divorce, Beset moved to a small island drenched in tourist attractions so that the children could be entertained while they visited for half of the week. That half of the week, Beset dropped everything for his children. The other half, he became an avid drinker and drowned in loneliness and financial issues. Beset picked up random jobs here and there but they never needed him long-term.
This part of the story really struck me due to the fact that my parents have been separated since I was two. My dad has always done his best to make me and my brother happy no matter what his mental or financial situation was. He picked up the drinking too for the exact same reasons.
Throughout the rest of the story Beset makes a list of things that he feels can be improved in his life. He gives himself a rating out of ten and throughout the story shows us how confidence, courage, self--awareness, and determination can help us become better people and can help him reach all tens.
This is a beautiful story that I guarantee will inspire you to be a better and more positive person with an opened-mind. Not to mention that if you take into consideration that this could be any passer-by it will open your eyes to a new perspective of appreciation and kindness to everyone who crosses your path. Maybe next time you'll think about yelling at the man who accidentally bumped into you because he was not looking ; you have no idea what he is going through.

Others have commented on the F word. Can't say I noticed ! Probably because the F word is so ubiquitous nowaday that it simply doesn't shock. The reason I'm not enthusiastic about the book is because I took a dislike to the author.
Possibly unfairly - he was/is not in a happy stuation. Separated, then divorced with an autistic son. Not easy surely.
However I found the whiny tone and 'poor-me' attitude iirratating. He didn't give much thought to how is wife was dealing with the same difficulties that were overwhelming him. I realize that I'm judging the author as person more than the book but it was impossible for me to read his account impartially.

I laughed and despaired throughout the book, and would love to see this as a movie!
