This was such an unusual book, written by someone with a great imagination. It had me hooked from the first page and as the story developed my sympathy for the Ninja Cat grew more and more. It has such a strong character, consistently displaying the best human values of loyalty, strength and goodness. All the characters, whether good or bad ,are well drawn and my only complaint is the ending-oh how I wanted to know what happened, but I will just have to wait for the sequel!

An entertaining, well written fantasy...

This book throws you right into the action from the very first page where we learn that a mysterious terrorist, later revealed to be the Ninja Kat, has been attacking the Military Regime known as the "Devil Corps." The story takes place in the Country of the Widows, and the characters are entirely anthropomorphic; however, Widdop's writing never makes the characters seem too fabricated or forced. Widdop's use of imagery are well on display during the course of the book.

The first half of the book is widely spent world building and giving the reader a strong foundation of the many characters that we are introduced to. While the first half of the book is well written, I honestly feel that we don't see the true charm in Widdop's writing until Chapter 16. Chapter 16 onward, for me, seemed to be a turning point of the story. We are introduced to the main character's past, as well as the events that lead to the beginning of the mysterious Ninja Kat. Widdop's writing also becomes more lively and his use of diction and syntax really begin to take the story to a new level.

All in all, I would recommend this story to readers of all ages. The simplicity of Widdop's writing is always underlined by a main purpose. Every chapter has a purpose and is never disrupted by over wording or pretentious, over bearing language. This series surely seems like it will be promising and I look forward to what's to come.

Velcro: The Ninja Kat creates a believable and engrossing world of magic and anthropomorphic fantasy, where it makes perfect sense that a cat can be skilled in the martial art of throwing stars to ward off sinister members of the Devil Corps. The author creates a new superhero in Velcro The Ninja Kat, who protects the innocent inhabitants of the Country of Widows against an alarmingly oppressive government. And who can resist a story that pairs a cat with a stouthearted band of hamsters as they all fight for their lives and their freedom. I was rooting for these appealing hamster characters as they joined with Velcro to battle with the dark forces of Black Magic that were unleashed on them. The story also has some interesting insect supporting characters that bring an evil darkness and a whimsical light to this well crafted fantasy world. I enjoyed this book from start to finish, and I think it would appeal to a wide range of readers. I look forward to the next installment. One word of caution: be careful not agitate the monstrous Boogie Man.

i give Velcro the ninja kat a four star rating because it is well written, packed with action and emotion and is a very "visual" read. I like stories that read like watching a movie and this is well written. I can't wait for Chris Widdop to finish this series! When's the next one coming out, Chris!!!
