Born on May 16, 1967 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, John Potter spent most of his childhood daydreaming. Mostly he wanted to save the world or failing that be a goalkeeper. Realising he didn't have what was needed for either, he focused on a career as a programmer. A decade later he was working for himself, which took him around the world. He quickly realised the people he worked with and the cultures he was living within, were far more interesting than anything he was doing for a living. Intensely interested by the differences between cultures, and the marked similarities between human characteristics wherever you found people, John focused on studying human history and writing about his experiences. While watching a movie made by Peter Jackson in 2002 he realised that everything he wanted to say and achieve, existed within the creative realm. Having spent a lifetime daydreaming wild stories he set about focusing on making the imagery play as words on the page. One day in 2008 he saw a girl in a busy high street, who then subsequently vanished. Conflicted by what he should do, he went looking for her and found her stood outside a chemist. The idea for his first novel however, was firmly set in his mind. He immediately decided it would be a woman that saw the girl disappear, and what if the woman had been a victim when she was a child? Getting up at 5 a.m. every day to get in several hours of writing before work, and then writing for several hours after work, John spent two years writing and editing Chasing Innocence. He quickly realised lobbying agents was a terribly ineffective way of getting published, especially with the possibilities offered by modern technology. So he decided to setup his own publishing company. The goal was to produce a book that was at least as polished and entertaining, from cover to cover, as the best large publishing houses could produce. Chasing Innocence is published on January 31 2012. Already well into writing a second book and a new series character, John is also researching the sequel to Chasing Innocence, featuring his troubled and enigmatic heroine, Sarah Sawacki. John lives near Reading with his wife Katherine. Learning and researching with the sole end of writing enthralling fiction, is his passion. Along the way he also became quite competent at publishing.

This debut book has a very powerful & well written story line, it covers the horrible subject of child sex trade & the cruel world of criminals & how they will use family members to make a person suffer for something they did.

Sarah had a bad childhood & feels her innocence was lost & is now left with an adult life of not being able to trust anybody let alone let them get intimate with her until she meets Adam, the man she ends up trusting enough to marry him. Over time she rebuilds her life & Adam helps her deal with her childhood trauma.

Brian is ex- special forces & had to leave after him & his unit suffered a terrible tragedy when they were attacked whilst on active duty & Brian was left with a bad arm & back. But he has his children to come back but he can't settle into civilian life & ends up working as a bouncer/ doorman for a former unit member who owns a nightclub. His highlight is getting to see his daughter, Andrea, each weekend.

Then tragedy strikes again Andrea is targeted by some very cruel people from Brian's past & she is kidnapped by a paedophile working for the men who want Brian to pay for his past deeds. What this team of people don't count on is Sarah seeing Andrea disappearing & in a split second makes a decision that could end up killing her, she decides to follow the man carrying the box that doesn't seem the right weight for it's size.
This leads to her leaving a trail of messages for Adam begging him to pass it onto the police as she fears for the girl's life & she knows she will do whatever it takes to save that girl from the childhood she had.

Adam contacts the police, first they seem to think Sarah is a suspect not a witness but then dying detective Francis Boer is brought into the case & he knows Sarah is a witness & will he be able to work out, the who, why & motive in time as his own life is hanging in the balance as he battles cancer. Can he save Andrea & Sarah before the cancer takes his life? This book has some really great twists & I can't recommend it highly enough I promise you reading this will keep you up late as you won't want to put it down until you finish the book.

I rarely give a 5 star review on anything because it means that absolutely EVERYTHING had to be PERFECT about whatever it is you are reviewing. I am not that picky, it's just rarely that perfect. I can name only one that came to mind right off the top of my head without having to search for it. A Time To Kill by John Grisham. Although not on my usual list of authors, I happened to pick that book up about a year before the movie came out and read it from cover to cover in one sitting. I had never felt so emotionally moved by a book in all my life, and that's saying a lot because I've been on an adult reading level since second grade. My mom used to come and search my room each week because I would smuggle books in and hide them to read because I was already into reading horror novels in second grade. I had watched Salem's Lot on TV when I was 5 and I was hooked on horror and then I branched out. My mom decided that wasn't going to work because the pictures on most of the covers was of scantily clad women bloody and screaming or monsters or something that looked evil. Anyway, I had a vocabulary that most college scholars would die for these days by the time I was in middle school because I would keep a dictionary close by to look up words I didn't understand while I was reading, which happened quite often. So, by the time I was in the 10th grade, I was delving into more and more genres, which is when I ran upon A Time To Kill in paperback. Long story, short-that was the only movie I ever saw that came so close to doing an amazing work of fiction justice. And it still didn't come close to being as good as the book. That's how I feel about "Chasing Innocence." I honestly believe God Himself would have to visit us on Earth disguised as a movie Producer, Director, and Complete Cast for it to come across on screen the way it did through the pages. The main character was sexually abused when she was young, so she's very sensitive to what is going on around her, especially when it involves what looks to be the kidnapping of a young girl in broad daylight by a big, burly man in the middle of the street one day. She had just connected gazes with the girl and felt a connection to her for some reason, but she looks away just for a second. When she looks again, the girl is gone and there the guy is carrying this box that just doesn't look to be the right weight for its size. Gosh, when I'm writing this, it doesn't even sound plausible, but it is so real you feel as if you are right there with her EVERY SINGLE SECOND, because as soon as she realizes there is a chance she just witnessed a child being kidnappped, she jumps right into action without a though for her own safety and she jumps into her car and follows the guy! Her husband is waiting for her and she calls from her cell and tries to explain while she is following the guy. After that, you just have to fasten your seat belt and hold on very tightly because it's an extremely bumpy ride. This author is completely unafraid of anything. No character is safe. Don't get too attached to anyone. I won't say anything more than that because I definitely don't want to make you think I've spoiled it for you. Trust me, you CANNOT, WILL NOT EVER GUESS even half of what happens for the rest of the book. The portion I just told you is only the first few chapters, if that. I will never forget this book as long as I live, much like A Time To Kill. Even though this book is not a happy book, it's a masterpiece. I would recommend this to ANYONE who is a fan of any genre related to mysteries/thrillers/horrors/dramas/fiction. It falls into all of the above and dominates them all. I would give it 6 stars if I could! I will be looking for anything else I can get my hands on by John Potter. You can bet on that!

The storyline flowed, the plot convoluted enough to keep you reading, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to all who like a fast moving thriller.

This is a dark and violent thriller, not for everyone.

Our heroine Sarah sees a little girl being forced into a van and gives chase. Since she was abused as a child, she can imagine what will happen to the child and is determined to save her. She calls her husband, alerting him to what's going on.

Her husband, losing touch with his wife, goes to the police. Then he teams up with the child's father, an ex-military type, to follow the trail his wife left.

Then Sarah is captured by the kidnapper.

The story weaves back and forth between Sarah's viewpoint, her husband's viewpoint, the father's viewpoint, even the kidnapper's viewpoint. Sarah's determination is admirable, as is that of her husband and the father.

This is a book I couldn't wait to get back to reading.

Excellent read, but not for the faint of heart.
