Kelin’s Journey is a post-apocalypse adventure of two twelve year old boys who survive a pandemic that decimates the world’s population. This was a great post-apocalyptic book featuring two young boys, Kelin and Josh, after a worldwide mutated anthrax epidemic wipes out most of the world's population.

The book starts at the beginning of the pandemic, goes through the course of the population wipeout, and then mainly follows the story of two survivors as they travel across the United States in search of Kelin's family, although they do meet and interact with a variety of survivors on their journey.

I thought the author, John L. Evans, did a superior job in capturing the voices and actions of the two 12 year old boys. "Kelin's Journey" is detail oriented, plausible, frightening because of its plausibility, encouraging but also heartbreaking. Evans did a good job at keeping this story exciting but not so descriptive that a younger reader can't read it. Violent acts are hinted at rather than totally spelled out.

This is one of the better P-A books I have read and I will be keeping it for my library (one of the benchmarks I use as to quality of the reading material). The story comes to a solid ending but I sure wouldn't mind reading about more of the boys' adventures.

This is a good, fast moving read. There's an episode which alludes to rape but does not describe it. There's no glorifying violence. It makes the point that not everyone has a conscience and nothing just falls into your lap, though it does follow the theme of "last survivors with lots of empty shopping centers." If you're an animal lover you might need a Kleenex. The author understands how responsible teens with all their adolescent groans and gripes can surprise you when challenged. The central characters are fundamentally decent kids and adults. If you've grown weary of the gore fest that haunts too much end of the world fiction, you'll appreciate how mayhem isn't the focus here, it's incidental to the journey. The language is considerably milder than most prepper novels. I would let the teens in my family read this story without hesitation, and I quite enjoyed it myself.

As a fan of post-apocalypse books, I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The action was riveting and the skills employed by the young adults amazing. I loved following them on their journey as they rifled through deserted stores along the way to find things needed for survival. The ending was a bit abrupt for my taste but the story was well worth reading.

I absolutely loved this book. I don't get chance to review books much, but felt I simply HAD to review this. An intriguing book, with edge of seat plot. Really enjoyed it. Thank you author.
