Lacy needs to earn money to support her sick grandmother so as a reporter she agrees to write a story about a retired rodeo champion, Cade, who is now raising bulls for rodeos. When she phones Cade to ask for an interview, his best friend, Burk, answers and pretends to be Cade. He agrees to the interview but when Lacy arrives and tells Cade she is there for the interview, he says he didn't agree to it and tries to get rid of her. They finally make a deal that he will do the interview and she will work as a ranch hand for a couple of weeks.

The characters in this story were well done. Lacy was pretty desperate to get the interview and write the story so she could get a permanent job with the magazine but she did some pretty dumb things on the ranch. She came across as a city girl who had no idea about country life. Cade was pretty grumpy since he had to quit the rodeo after getting injured, he lost his wife a couple of years earlier and he was having really bad luck on his ranch putting him in financial trouble. Cade's friend, Burk, added humor to this story. He tried to help people but usually made matters worse instead. The attraction between Cade and Lacy grew but Cade fought it, mainly because of his dead wife.

As a whole this was an enjoyable read that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. There was romance and mystery in a western setting making this book awesome.

Hot, Fast and Sexy are three words I would use to describe this book (and subsequently how I imagine I most cowboys). This is the first book of Lindsey’s I’ve read, and I’m certainly glad I gave it, and her, a shot.

This book is the story of the meddling reporter, Lacy Dalton, and angry (in a very sexy way) cowboy Cade Tyler who lost his wife to a car accident two years previous. Cade is an ex-rodeo man who now spends his days looking after his ranch with the help of his best friend, Burk. Lacy arrives on scene to do a story on Cade, his rodeo career, and his life since he’s left riding. Her arrival is a complete surprise to Cade (well done, Burk, well done) and Cade, of course, resists. Lacy, being the stubborn reporter she is, gets Cade to do the interview by agreeing to be his ranch hand for as long as she stays…not an easy task for a city girl.

Lacy, Cade, Burk, and the resident mutt embark on an adventure that’s full of highs and lows of all kinds. Cade finds himself torn between the grief and memories of his late wife, and his new, uncomfortably real feelings for Lacy. While Lacy struggles with writing a story that could help her career, but possibly hurt Cade in the process. Lacy not only finds her self falling for Cade, but for life on the ranch in general.

As I read about this dynamic couple, my emotions ran the gamut – anxious, curious, turned-on, sad, worried, and happy. What I think I enjoyed most about this book was just when I thought it was over, I got more! Between Lacy’s never-ending descriptions of how hot Cade looks in his jeans, to the way Cade fantasizes about Lacy’s lips – this book will certainly turn up the heat wherever you are reading.

Lindsey does a great job of letting the characters write the story for her – she doesn’t force or manipulate situations just to add pages to the book. Her writing is free and easy like a summer day and her “heat” is right up there with other books I’ve read – giving us a little taste of what life with a cowboy is all about. YeeHaw!!

As I said before, this is a fairly fast read and would be a wonderful beach/vacation book as we head into summertime all around the country.

Such a lovely read, loved every minute of it.. My heart broke for Cade, losing his wife.. It made him bitter and withdrawn, he doesn't want to like Lacy, but his body reacts to her.. Not wanting to betray his feelings for his late wife, he pushes Lacy away...

Former rodeo champion Cade Tyler, sidelined by an injury and devastated over the loss of his wife in an accident, thinks that life has thrown him all the curves it can. Then, life throws stubborn, sassy, sexy reporter Lacy Dalton in his path. Cade doesn’t like reporters, and he doesn’t like stubborn. Unfortunately, he’s not so sure about the sexy part, and thus the sparks fly.
For her part, Lacy finds herself drawn to the morose cowboy, but the more she learns the more dangerous life gets for her. For someone’s out to destroy Cade and Lacy becomes another weapon they can use to do that.
Capturing the Cowboy’s Heart by Lindsey Brookes is an action-romance story that will appeal to even readers, even those who don’t normally read the romance genre. This is not your usual bodice-ripping, heavy-breathing frothy concoction that characterizes the run of the mill romance. Sure, there are the obligatory romantic scenes, and there is definitely a lot of heavy breathing, but there’s also some finely crafted action, and enough suspense to edge this book into fringes of the mystery genre.
Brookes could, if she keeps this up, entice me to read more romance novels.

Enjoyed the story, but the mystery part was weird. It felt like it was thrown in at the last minute without a lot of thought. It either shouldn't have been there or should have been introduced sooner and explored more maybe.
