The story is (briefly!): Don't share your toys with monsters, because they will delight in damaging / braking/ dirtying / spoiling them. Instead you should share with a friend. The presumption is that friends will play nicely, so it's good to share. This is a great message on the surface, however, I have two issues.
1. I felt the balance was a little off. Most of the pages have splashed across them 'DON'T SHARE YOUR TOYS!' (Caps because the illustrative style is quite exaggerated). Only one page, right at the back says that if you want to share, you should share with a friend. The emphasis is definitely on not sharing (because monsters will brake your toys). Personally, I'd have preferred more emphasis on the situations when it *is* great to share toys.
2. Why should you not share with monsters? Because they brake toys. OK. But is that really a good reason to say to a child to not share? Maybe. But again, for me if we're talking about sharing and braking toys I'd have preferred a 'don't brake toys' rather than a 'don't share toys' emphasis.
Am I being picky? Maybe. The book looks fun, the illustrations are very lively and animated, and the rhyming works really well - it's made for a child to enjoy reading. I also thought the interactive element was just right for a child (and major credit to the author for writing a book that is made for electronic devices). However, I won't be reading it to our son for the reasons stated above. Which is a shame, because otherwise it's a good book!

Colorful, but simple illustrations are integrated into the story and add to the book’s overall appeal. The text is simple, but conveys the story and eventual lesson – you don’t have to share with a “monster, but it’s nice to share with a friend - without becoming pedantic or preachy.
Elwyn Tate is one author whose books I watch for – his stories are appealing and fun. Children can easily relate to the situations and experiences his characters encounter. Parents and grandparents will enjoy reading these books to little ones as much as those youngsters enjoy hearing the stories. I definitely recommend “Don’t Lend A Monster Your Favorite Toy”.
