The Koi pond that we are putting in the backyard is coming along nicely. Yesterday a huge load of boulders was delivered, and it was just like Christmas morning for me. I was so excited as they were unloading the trailer and revealing each and every boulder. The pond itself still has a long way to go before it’s finished. The cement that lines the wall is dried, but it still needs the under-liner and then the black liner. Every time I go out to the backyard it blows my mind how different it looks. Completely unrecognizable. All those years I put into creating the perfect little flowerbeds, gone. Now, I’m not sad or anything. I am very excited about the pond, but it’s still very shocking. Today it’s raining pretty hard and we have a tarp covering the hole. I’m not sure how much good that will do because this amount of rain will find its way in. I wish I could save some of the rain for when we are ready to fill it up. That’s going to be a huge water bill. YIKES!

An elite forces officer with a dreadful reputation.
A bookish paleontologist with a love for mysteries.
An ancient stronghold full of secrets that will take both of them to unearth.

Professor Lilah Zirkander (yes, she’s related to the famous pilot, and no, she can’t get him to autograph your undergarments) is looking forward to a summer in the paleontology lab, researching and cataloging new fossils. But that summer takes an unexpected turn when the king sends her into the Ice Blades to a secret mine where ancient dragon bones have been discovered. Rumor has it that they’re cursed and dangerous, but Lilah is more concerned about dealing with the outpost commander, a fierce officer with the temperament of a crabby badger.

As punishment for irking the king, Colonel Vann Therrik is overseeing the hardened criminals working in the remote Magroth Crystal Mines. He would like a chance to redeem himself — and escape the loathsome duty station — but nothing is going his way. Cursed fossils have delayed production, miners are trying to escape, and now a scientist has shown up, making demands on his time. Worse, she’s the cousin of his nemesis General Zirkander. As if one Zirkander in his world wasn’t bad enough.

Investigating the fossils leads Lilah and Vann into the depths of Magroth Mountain where centuries-old secrets lurk, and a long-forgotten threat stalks the passages. To have any chance at survival, they’ll have to work together and perhaps learn that neither is what the other expected.

Shattered Past is a stand-alone novel set in the author’s Dragon Blood world.

Until now.

Riots are brewing in New York City over a controversial new technology. He sees Victoria on the news. Still alive and still as young as his memories of her. He needs answers. Nailed (A Ron Ketchum Mystery Book 1)
by Joseph Flynn
4.4 Stars (2,538 Reviews)

FREE for a limited time

Ron Ketchum saw his share of the dark side of life as a cop in Los Angeles. Then he left L.A. to become the chief of police in the Sierra Nevada resort town of Goldstrike. One sunny morning in the mountains, though, he comes upon a crime unlike anything he’s ever seen before.

He finds the body of an African American man nailed to a tree.

The victim is a highly respected minister, and his father is the nationally known televangelist Jimmy Thunder. Ron, on the other hand, has described himself in court as a recovering bigot.

Goldstrike’s mayor for life and movie icon, Clay Steadman, wants Ron to catch the killer fast. Adding to the pressure, the victim’s grandmother comes to town. She tells the media mob that has descended on Goldstrike that God will curse the town until the killer is caught.

That’s when a rogue mountain lion begins attacking people. At first, the attacks happen on the wilderness outskirts of Goldstrike. Then the predator moves into town, leaping a fence into a family’s backyard. Finally, it turns the tables on one of the hunters sent out to bring it down.

Looking for a killer, hunting a lion and defending his own integrity — makes being a cop in L.A. seem like the good old days.

Heartwarming books with characters you’ll love: Welcome to Pajaro Bay.

Aspiring chef Bree Taylor thought she’d found a home at last, in the kitchen of Lassiter’s restaurant. Chef Henry Lassiter was not only her mentor, but a dear friend who regaled her with stories of his childhood home in Pajaro Bay. Henry’s sudden death shattered her world, leaving her as lost and grieving as his beloved old dog, Maisy. Now Bree has only one last task to complete for Henry: she will deliver the dog to Henry’s twin sister in Pajaro Bay. Then she can move on, and find some way to start over, as alone and adrift as ever.

But what she finds when she arrives is not the happy, cozy little village Henry had described, but a town full of mysteries she can’t understand, from his sister’s odd behavior, to the handsome doctor with eyes as rich as bittersweet chocolate who can’t seem to decide if he is attracted to her–or just wants her to leave him alone.

In the end, she’ll have to use everything Henry taught her, about faith and trust and believing in herself, to find a new path, with new friends, a new community, and the happily ever after Henry had always promised was waiting for her, whenever she was ready to take a chance.
