Our garage sale adventure last Saturday was a smashing success. I was amazed just how many treasures we found in such a short amount of time. By far my favorite items were the two Murano (I think) hand blown glass vases for $10 each. Absolutely beautiful. We also found a baby gate to keep little Rosey in the family room for only $3! I found a bunch of uranium glass pieces for a steal. I think I may have paid no more than $15 for all nine pieces that included a water pitcher, large bowl, sherbet cups and a vase. I was planning to cut back on buying stuff and spend more time trying to sell what I have, but I just can’t resist the hunt. Days like last weekend just make it that much harder to quit. I was even coming off a great Friday Goodwill shopping trip. I know I am bad when the lady who works at one of my favorite Goodwill stores gave me a little sack filled with Pokemon pins for FREE! She knows I collect pins and saved them for me. SO SWEET!! I am not going to fight it. It’s who I am. Plus, hubby really enjoys the hunt as well. It’s a hobby we both enjoy, and it mostly pays for itself. WIN WIN!

Broke And Happier For It: Enjoying Life, Not Stuff
by Kate Singh
4.6 Stars (83 Reviews)
Genre: Crafts, Hobbies & Home

FREE for a limited time

Have you ever had that moment where you realize that work and money seem to be the priority and not so much family or even having a life? Do you keep working past exhaustion because of fear? Do you fear getting behind on bills, debt, or a mortgage that is painfully large? This is a common life for most people. Mortgages and rents are too high, wallets are filled with credit cards that are maxed out. The commutes are long and work hours bleed into weekends leaving little time for relationships or basic sleep. This is no way to live. It is not living at all.

This book was written after I was heavily influenced by a few books on everything from work priorities to extreme poverty. I began to realize that my husband and I worked too hard and were missing out on our two boys’ short childhood. We were burnt out and not having any fun. I decided to whittle the work way down, simplify our lives, home, chores, even cooking. I desire a slow and simple life. I returned my focus to nurturing our home life and being a mother that is present in the here and now.

I feel it is possible for everyone, but you may need to downsize and open your mind to another lifestyle. What is most important to you? How much of your life do you want back? Would you be willing to live on a small budget, maybe be a little broke, to have more time for your children or a dream?

After a brief prologue, the story is told through his letters, interspersed with photographs and factual details about the events unfolding on the larger stage, worldwide.
‘It brought a tear to my eye. I fear we shall never see such fortitude again… It’s so important for these life stories to be on record, so that future generations will know what people went through and how they lived – and loved.’ Bel Mooney
