I just about jumped ten feet out of bed this morning and ran down the hall. I was LATE!! No…wait. I was BEHIND!! Nope.. that’s not it either. Yes, I have stuff I gotta do, but I wasn’t late or behind. I was positive I was something, but I just don’t know what. I have seen my cat go from a deep sleep and then all of a sudden run around the house before, so I was trying to figure out what his deal was. Thing is, I’m not a cat, so what’s my deal? That’s when it hit me. I have lost my marbles. Summer vacation is almost over and I am not ready for the baby bassets to go back to school. With my new job, the baby basset’s sports starting up, and the new school year right around the corner, I realized I really don’t have my stuff together. I HAVEN’T BEEN TO TARGET IN A WEEK AND A HALF! I am certain they will come after me soon. There was nothing to eat in the house for dinner last night, so they had canned baked beans. That’s it! Tonight’s dinner looks like stale bread and water.

A Novella

Love and Money are two important ingredients in a man’s recipe for happiness.Unfortunately, those same two ingredients under the wrong circumstances can be a man’s recipe for disaster.

Unlucky at love, unemployed and drowning in debt, Thomas O’Connor is a man in need of salvation.

When an unexpected gift arrives from an unknown source, Tom is confused, yet elated about his new-found fortune. His luck continues when he runs into an old flame he hasn’t seen in years and sparks begin to fly. Strange how a man’s fate can change when he least expects it – one moment he’s miserable and struggling to make ends meet, and the next he’s back on his feet and looking forward to a bright future… or so he thought.

Then Tom’s rediscovered love reveals the shocking skeletons in her past, and he must decide to forgive and forget or turn his back and walk away. If he chooses to stay, he must find a way to live with the violent action required to keep her in his life. An innocent search on the Internet unveils a problem that could stand between Tom’s good fortune and ultimately, the love of his life.

They say that love is blind and money is the root of all evil, but sometimes you don’t realize that until it’s too late.

A Fool and His Money is a novella about love, happiness, desire, greed and murder.

Louisiana Lament : A Humorous New Orleans Mystery; Talba Wallis PI Series #3 (The Talba Wallis PI Series)
by Julie Smith
4.1 Stars (336 Reviews)
Genre: Mystery | Mystery, Thriller & Suspense

FREE for a limited time

Louisiana Lament is the THIRD book in the Talba Wallis mystery series by Edgar-winning author Julie Smith.
NOBODY KNEW WHO SHE REALLY WAS… BUT HER PARTIES WERE TO DIE FOR!

They’d be Queen Latifah and Danny DeVito if this were a movie. In Louisiana Lament, they’re P.I.s Talba Wallis and Eddie Valentino. Talba’s young, African-American, computer-brilliant, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and a noted poet by night; Eddie’s pushing seventy, white, hopelessly tech-challenged, and pretty much burned out. Somehow, they make it work — with Talba’s tech-and-street smarts, and Eddie’s old-school hard-earned savvy, they even complement each other.

One stormy day Talba gets an emergency call from Janessa, the sister she barely knows, and arrives to find a body floating in a swimming pool — the mortal husk of Allyson Brown, known in New Orleans literary circles as the Girl Gatsby. Like Gatsby, Allyson was one of those mysterious rich people who move to town, give amazing parties, and seem made of moonbeams.

Investigating, Talba finds the reality behind the Gatsby glamour. Allyson was a con artist who neglected her children, ignored her bills, and lied like a rug. But she wasn’t the only bad actor on the local literary scene. Fellow poet Rashad leads Talba a merry chase, leaving a trail of clues in the form of poetry, while novelists engage in fisticuffs, unseemly preening, and unforgivable arrogance.

Before it’s all over, Talba finds out just how seamy, petty, and downright murderous her fellow literati can be.

by Li Bo
4.5 Stars (11 Reviews)
Genre: Literature & Fiction

FREE for a limited time

In Tienkuo: The Heavenly Kingdom, author Li Bo has drawn on his knowledge of East Asian civilization to transport readers to nineteenth-century China. There a massive civil war is tearing the Qing dynasty apart.

At the heart of the rebellion is the mysterious Taiping Tienkuo, the Heavenly Kingdom of Great Peace. The Heavenly Kingdom is the center for the Taipings, a religious and political movement determined to overthrow Confucian rule and establish a government based on semi-Christian beliefs. Leading the revolt is a man who claims to be the younger brother of Jesus Christ himself.

The Heavenly Kingdom is home to the devout, the zealous, and the courageous. Some regard them as mere rebels but others as visionaries.

For Jason Brandt, the son of a Hong Kong missionary, the Heavenly Kingdom holds an undeniable allure. Accompanied by his best friend, Wu Sek-chong, and the beautiful and stubborn Black Jade, the young man sets off to see the Heavenly Kingdom for himself.

In the great journey ahead, all three travelers will be tested as they confront their hidden desires and doubts. Could there be catastrophic consequences in the gripping adventure unfolding before them?
