Tonight my partner in crime and I begin our second series of Beekeeping classes with the same instructor we had before. I honestly do not know how much more we can learn about bees, but I guess that’s the whole point. I don’t know what I don’t know, and the instructor will tell me what I don’t know. I feel the last session taught me so much about bees that I could tell you the shoe size of each individual bee in any colony. I know there are a lot of people who decide they want to keep bees, and just go out and buy them without all the research, and I wonder if maybe that is a better idea. The more I learn, the more intimidating it gets. Thankfully many of you have sent me messages telling me how great it is and that makes me excited about beekeeping all over again. I am still not looking forward to being stung.

Ruled from the shadows by the House — the immortal Born and their aging, enslaved Bitten — everyone knows not to go out after dark and that the police will never look into crimes involving blood. Alivia Ryan didn’t know the man who claims to be her father through a will even existed until she inherits the Conrath plantation. Instead of the sleepy house she expects, she finds a mansion and a staff who look at her with fear in their eyes. Ian Ward tried to kill Alivia the first time they met, and then insisted he train her to defend herself against the House, who he claims will try to manipulate and take her in for their own political reasons. And the growing attraction between them will threaten their lives — Ian is a sworn enemy of the House. In Silent Bend, people disappear, the threat of a demented King and the legend of his resurrecting Queen hang over everyone’s heads, and proving loyalty means far more than blood. You’d better watch who you trust in this town…

The Guy At The Bar: Notes from a father who lost a lot, but gained a little.
Adam Griffin

Genre: Health, Fitness & Dieting

THE GUY AT THE BAR. His story goes well beyond the beer in front of him and the game on television. He has years of bumps, bruises, and scars from life’s left and right fist. He’s been tossed around, knocked down, and beat up. His story is not unique. It’s all of our stories. It’s the story of the human condition. At some point in life we’ve all been The Guy At The Bar – a little roughed up and broken, but presenting ourselves to the world with a beer in hand and smile on our face. Author Adam Griffin was The Guy At The Bar during one of the worst things a human can go through — the loss of a child. This is his story. It’s not a story of death and despair however. It’s a story of persistent hope. It’s a story of finding the good piled well beneath the crap. And it’s a story of feeling the sunshine once again through far too many clouds. This is a book for the hurting. It’s a book for the healthy. It’s a book for anyone along for the ride above ground. It’s a book… for humans.

Steaming into History: Footplate Tales of the Last Days of Western Steam
Michael Clutterbuck
4.5 Stars (2 Reviews)
Genre: Historical Fiction | History

FREE for a limited time

Steaming into History is the second of Michael Clutterbuck’s Steaming Into series. In this collection of short stories we are reacquainted with some familiar characters as well as meeting new ones. The stories tell the tale of some of the North West’s footplatemen following the Second World War, as the railways undergo a series of dramatic changes due to nationalisation, the introduction of diesel engines, and the slow but steady demise of the Age of Steam. The combination of personal interest and fact-based tales of the railways will appeal to a wide range of readers – particularly, of course, those who have a fascination with the railways. The backdrop of a country slowly coming to after years of war and rationing makes an interesting setting for these stories, which trace the passage of time from the late 1940s well into the ’60s.) Michael Clutterbuck’s first book, Steaming into the Firing Line, has stayed firmly within the top ten of its categories on Amazon since it was published in 2012 and has received many glowing reviews. This frequently requested sequel will not disappoint. Characters develop, lives move on, as does the United Kingdom and its railways. Each story tells a different tale in its own right but together they form something bigger and give the reader insight into an age now long past.
