Since the bees seem to be overwhelming me at the moment I am going to sit with my sweet little chickies. These ladies know how to keep it simple. If you show them a treat they will eat it. If you put one in your lap, they will sit quietly and you can pet them and relax in the afternoon sun. If you try to eat a chicken sandwich in front of them they will try to steal it. GROSS! That always creeps me out. That little habit always reminds me that they are part dinosaur. Brutal. Other than that though they do bring me a lot of joy. The only issue I have with them right now is where am I going to plant my new flowers where they can’t get to them? Maybe plastic flowers are the way to go.

Tales of Shirt Tail Hollow

Grace dreaded the thought of spending another summer vacation with her young daughter, Hope, cooped up in their small apartment. So she answered an ad for a house for sale in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia about 80 miles to the west. When they visited the property Grace saw a run-down house in need of repairs with no electricity or running water, and an outhouse that probably had splinters. She thought of cooking and washing by hand and of all the work it would take to fix up the house and land. Hope saw a lovely green valley, hundreds of trees filled with singing birds, and a gurgling stream to wade in with frogs, fish, and turtles. In the distance she heard cows mooing and pigs grunting at a nearby neighbor. So Grace bought the property and they came to Shirt Tail Hollow. Hope waded in the creek but she also learned about the washday bear and the friendly skunks. With her friend Earl, she almost lost a rug in the creek, but found left side of the road mushrooms. She made friends with Seven-thirty–a cat — watched Precious Pup gobble down a $12 bone, and tried to ride a reluctant cow. It’s hard to say who this book is for because all ages will enjoy it, from toddlers to grandparents. Read it for yourself, give it to your children and read it to the young ones.
