I can’t help but imagine myself as a giant claw machine when I am scooping up the fish and snails out of the fish tank when it’s time to do a deep clean. I love to imitate the voice of the little green alien toys from Toy Story, “The Claw!” As I scoop the little fish out, “I have been chosen!” It’s fun and cute. Now the fish and snails have a completely different view of all this, but let’s not talk about that.

Small Town. Big Murder.

Hi. I’m Alice. The number one secret to my success as a bodyguard? Staying under the radar. But when a public disaster blew up my career and my reputation, my perfect, solo life took a hard left turn to crazy town. And to bodies. Lots of dead bodies.

I thought my hometown of Nowhere would be an out-of-the-way refuge to wait out the media storm.

It wasn’t.

My little brother had moved into a treehouse. The town had the bright idea of attracting tourists with the world’s largest collection of big things… Nowhere now has the world’s largest pizza cutter. And lawn flamingo. And ball of yarn…

And then I stumbled over a dead body.

All the evidence points to my brother being the bad guy. I may have been out of his life for a while — okay, five blissful years — but I know he’s no killer. Can I clear my brother before he becomes Nowhere’s next Big Fatality?

When Tonio tells his friend, Sam, that Ma is dying of the wasting sickness, Sam comes up with a brilliant idea, and they sell secrets to rival street gangs to earn enough for his mother’s healing tonic. But the gang leaders, Biter and Half-Ear, are ruthless, and it’s only a matter of time until they discover Sam and Tonio are double-crossing them.

If only Sam’s ideas weren’t so dangerous.

If only Tonio’s drunken step-brother, Marius, wasn’t constantly beating him.

Then a ruby dragon arrives in Naobia. A tough dragon master, as sharp as a blade, has come to town — a spymaster who hunts down Tonio and Sam and tempts them to go on a dangerous hunt for his dragon’s stolen egg.

Anyone in their right mind would turn him down.

The Lynmouth Stories
by L.V. Hay
3.8 Stars (104 Reviews)
Genre: Literature & Fiction | Crime Fiction

FREE for a limited time

Beautiful places hide dark secrets…

Devon’s very own crime writer L.V Hay (The Other Twin, Do No Harm) brings forth three new short stories from her dark mind and poison pen:

– For kidnapped Meg and her young son Danny, In Plain Sight, the remote headland above Lynmouth is not a haven, but hell.

– A summer of fun for Catherine in Killing Me Softly becomes a winter of discontent… and death.

– In Hell And High Water, a last minute holiday for Naomi and baby Tommy becomes a survival situation… But that’s before the village floods.

All taking place out of season when the majority of tourists have gone home, L.V Hay uses her local knowledge to bring forth dark and claustrophic noir she has come to be known for.

Did You Know… ?

Known as England’s ‘Little Switzerland’, the Devon village of Lynmouth is famous for its Victorian cliff railway, fish n’ chips and of course, RD Blackmore’s Lorna Doone.

Located on the doorstep of the dramatic Valley of The Rocks and the South West Cliff Path, the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth have inspired many writers, including 19th Century romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, who honeymooned there in 1812.
